A cherished keepsake from Jack Black continues to hold for Kate Winslet. During a recent advanced screening of her new film at The 92nd Street Y in New York City on September 23, the actress, who is now 48, was surprised with a touching video greeting from her co-star from The Holiday.
In the video, Black playfully asked, “When are we getting Holiday 2?” before expressing his fondness with, “You’re the best. How are you? I miss you. Love you.”
Winslet, sharing her thoughts during a conversation with Happy Sad Confused host Josh Horowitz, revealed that Black played an integral role in coining her nickname. “I actually have a bit of a nickname on set,” she noted, mentioning that K Dub has become the preferred way to address her. “Jack honestly started that, and now most people just call me K Dub or ask for Kate on Lee because there are two of us.”
In The Holiday, the narrative centers around Amanda, portrayed by Cameron Diaz, a heartbroken movie-trailer producer who opens her Los Angeles home for a holiday getaway, prompting Iris (Winslet), also downcast, to trade her English countryside cottage.
Throughout their respective stays, Amanda develops feelings for Graham (Jude Law), Iris’ widowed brother, while Iris forms a connection with Miles (Black), a film composer linked to Amanda’s former partner.
Winslet previously shared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in February that her role in the 2006 romantic comedy is more recognizable to audiences than her performance in Titanic from 1997, particularly during the Christmas season. “It’s heartwarming that mothers and daughters approach me in grocery stores saying, ‘Oh Kate, we adore The Holiday; it’s our cherished Christmas tradition,’” she explained.
She elaborated on this delightful connection, saying, “They have their own annual traditions around the film, sharing meals and enjoying it together. I never anticipated such a deep bond would arise from a film like this, and it truly warms my heart.”
While there has been considerable chatter regarding a sequel, director Nancy Meyers clarified in December 2022 that no sequel was being developed, disappointing many enthusiasts of The Holiday. Winslet addressed these rumors with PEOPLE, stating, “I came across something about it, but it’s the first I’ve heard.”
She affirmed, “I assure you, no one from the original cast or their representatives has had any discussions with me about it,” emphasizing that the idea has never surfaced in conversation.
However, in June, Jude Law shared his excitement about the possibility of a sequel in an interview with E! News, expressing his affection for the concept.
He suggested that fans would need to inquire with Meyers regarding the potential project but expressed his openness to returning, jokingly pondering about his character’s current situation. “I imagine Graham is still wearing his cardigans and glasses while reading,” he joked, adding that his daughters would now be in their late twenties.
