NeNe Leakes, a former star of Real Housewives of Atlanta, faces financial repercussions as her bank account will be garnished to settle a debt related to alleged unpaid rent, according to an exclusive report from In Touch.
Court documents reviewed by In Touch reveal that a judge in Georgia approved a request from MPG-Sugarloaf to seize funds from NeNe’s Truist Bank account. NeNe, 56, did not appear in court to contest this request.
In August 2023, MPG-Sugarloaf initiated legal action against the reality star, claiming she leased a commercial property from them for her Swagg Boutique, which opened in 2017. The boutique faced a temporary closure during the pandemic, reopened for a short period, and eventually closed permanently in 2022.
The landlord alleges that NeNe failed to pay $22,000 in rent before vacating the premises. The lawsuit sought the full amount owed along with accrued interest. After the suit was filed, NeNe took to social media to assert that she was not liable for the debt, stating that her late husband,
Gregg Leakes, had signed the lease. She remarked, “Gregg signed the lease, not me! He ain’t here.” Gregg passed away on September 1, 2021, at the age of 66. Although NeNe was served legal documents outside her $1 million Atlanta residence, she did not respond to the claims in court.
In November 2023, a default judgment was issued against her for $25,631. Following this ruling, the landlord issued multiple summons to financial institutions where NeNe might hold funds, instructing them to freeze all assets, including wages, except for exempt property, for five days following the summons’s service.
As reported earlier by In Touch, NeNe, who last appeared on Real Housewives of Atlanta in 2020, also dealt with her son, Bryson Bryant, facing legal troubles related to drug possession last year.
Bryson was arrested on July 3, 2023, in Georgia after law enforcement discovered a bag containing a white substance in his vehicle, which tested positive for fentanyl. He reached a plea agreement with prosecutors, avoiding further jail time. Under the terms of the deal, the possession charge was dismissed in exchange for his guilty plea to a misdemeanor for providing false information to law enforcement.
Bryson received a sentence of 12 months of probation and was ordered to pay a $500 fine. Following his arrest, NeNe expressed her concerns regarding her son’s struggles with addiction, saying, “He needs a lot of counseling.
Like many families, I have family members struggling with drugs and certain addictions. He has an addiction. He’s been in rehab a couple of times but has relapsed.” “I’ve spent so much money trying to get Bryson where he needs to be,” she added.
