In the middle of the night, the Los Angeles Police Department contacted Jennifer Aniston after receiving a swatting call from an anonymous male. The 55-year-old Friends star was roused from sleep at her luxurious Bel Air mansion, valued at $21 million, due to a call indicating that the actress was threatening to take her own life on September 20.
Although her name was not directly mentioned, the caller expressed concern for a friend who was “not doing well” and suggested “seeing him on the other side,” as reported by TMZ. The individual requested a welfare check while concealing his identity and only provided the address.
Following the swatting incident, LAPD arrived at the residence shortly after midnight, where security personnel appeared surprised by the police presence. It was then that officers realized they were at Aniston’s home, where she later reassured them that “everything was OK and that she had no self-harm intentions.”
According to the Oxford Dictionary, swatting refers to “the action or practice of making a prank call to emergency services in an attempt to bring about the dispatch of a large number of armed police officers to a particular address.”
The actress, known for her role in Horrible Bosses, is among numerous celebrities who have been targeted by this dangerous prank, joining the ranks of Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, and Justin Bieber.
Authorities reported that they have noted the location of Jennifer’s residence and will consult with security measures to avoid future incidents if a welfare check is needed again. The police are also conducting a deeper investigation as they are treating the call as a swatting case.
Jennifer, often described as a homebody, takes great pleasure in her 8,500-square-foot residence, which she has meticulously decorated to reflect her personal style.
She acquired the mansion, which boasts four bedrooms, six-and-a-half bathrooms, a pool, a wine cellar, and a guest house, in 2011. During the COVID-19 lockdown, she humorously revealed on Jimmy Kimmel Live that she hadn’t stepped outside for three weeks, stating, “I’m a born agoraphobe.”
A source revealed to Life & Style that her stunning home, once shared with ex-husband Justin Theroux, eliminates the need for extravagant vacations. “The reason Jen doesn’t take as many lavish trips anymore is that she’s invested so much into transforming her Bel Air house into a mini resort and wellness retreat, ensuring she takes full advantage of all the amenities,” the insider explained on August 22.
“From the nightclub-like pool and bar areas to the Justin-curated gym, plus the abundant office space created when the home was designed for two people instead of one.”
The insider added that her home serves as her sanctuary. “Jennifer has a very particular style and loves collaborating with her loyal team of interior designers to realize her vision.
She wants her space to reflect her,” the source concluded. “Jen has also grown fond of the views from her house—nothing calms her or boosts her productivity more than spending time in her backyard, whether alone or with friends.”
