Alan Ruck, known for his role in Succession, is remaining tight-lipped about whether he engaged a private investigator to look into the individual suing him over a car accident, as reported exclusively by In Touch. Court documents obtained by In Touch reveal that Alan, 68, has requested a Los Angeles Superior Court judge to dismiss a recent motion filed by Horacio Vela.
In November, Alan collided his 2023 Rivian truck into a pizza establishment located on Hollywood Boulevard. The incident involved a four-car crash, resulting in Alan’s vehicle crashing into the restaurant. According to TMZ, video footage from the scene depicted Alan’s car rear-ending another vehicle, which caused his truck to smash into the eatery.

Authorities concluded that the actor was not impaired by drugs or alcohol at the time of the incident. Following the crash, the vehicle’s manufacturer conducted an internal review, which reportedly found no malfunction had occurred during the accident.
In his lawsuit, Horacio asserts that he was the driver whom Alan struck at a red light. He claims to have sustained “severe injuries and damages” from the collision, stating that he required hospitalization following the event.
Horacio is seeking unspecified damages for “property damage, costs of past and future medical care, pain and suffering, mental anguish, emotional distress, and other consequential damages.” Alan has denied any wrongdoing in response to the lawsuit.
Alan contends that “any damages claimed by [Horacio], if any, are entirely or partially due to [Horacio’s] own contributory and comparative fault, or that of third parties,” and he maintains that his liability, which he specifically denies, should be adjusted based on this fault.
Additionally, Alan’s attorney argued for an “offset or credit for the total amount received by [Horacio], whether directly or indirectly, related to insurance claims and settlements.” Alan is asking for the lawsuit to be dismissed and for Horacio to receive nothing.
Recently, Horacio sought a court order compelling Alan to answer questions and produce relevant documents. One inquiry Horacio claims Alan declined to answer involved whether he had hired a private investigator in connection with the incident.
Horacio is seeking information about any surveillance and private investigators involved, noting that “information regarding surveillance of [Horacio] is discoverable and not automatically protected by attorney-client privilege or work product,” according to the motion.
Alan opposed this request. His attorney stated, “Asking whether [Alan] has hired a private investigator is a clear attempt to breach asserted privileges and access information protected by attorney-client confidentiality.”
“Whether a private investigator has been engaged would reveal defense strategies and tactics in preparation for trial, which is considered attorney work product. [Horacio] possesses all information known to [Alan] concerning witnesses and documents about this incident, and [Horacio] is capable of conducting his investigation based on this information or hiring a private investigator if he wishes,” he added.
A ruling from the judge is still pending.
