Amy Poehler has embarked on a new relationship with former New York Times editor Joel Lovell. According to an exclusive source for PEOPLE, the Parks & Recreation alum and Lovell are enjoying each other’s company.
Their romance began earlier this summer. Lovell transitioned to podcasting after serving as deputy editor of The New York Times Magazine and is now the executive editor at Pineapple Street Studios.
The company’s website highlights his involvement in editing several of their original podcasts, including Missing Richard Simmons, Winds of Change, and 9/12. Poehler’s representative did not respond to PEOPLE’s request for a statement. Similar to Lovell, Poehler, 53, is also well-acquainted with the podcasting world.
In September 2023, the Saturday Night Live alum revealed her collaboration with longtime friend Liz Cackowski and broadcasting company Audacy to launch a scripted comedy podcast series titled Say More with Dr. Sheila.
Lovell’s Pineapple Street Studios is owned by Audacy as well.Notably, Lovell’s Pineapple Stre In Say More, Poehler portrays Dr. Sheila, a “world-class therapist and life coach” who dispenses dubious couples advice and commentary on various relationship issues.
“Podcasts are vital part of my life, and we wanted to create an homage to all the different types of podcasts we enjoy,” she explained to PEOPLE at that time. “The coolest thing about a podcast is that it’s a really intimate medium. You often feel like the person is speaking directly to you, making it very personal. I think it’s a fun landscape that broadens the options and opportunities for humor.”
Poehler also had a successful summer for another reason: she lent her voice to Inside Out 2, the Disney-Pixar animated film that dominated the global box office, surpassing the $1 billion mark in under three weeks.
The film features Poehler as Joy, Phyllis Smith as Sadness, Tony Hale as Fear, and Maya Hawke as the new emotion, Anxiety, among others. Poehler has two sons, Archie, 15, and Abel, 14, with her ex-husband Will Arnett, from whom she divorced in 2016.
