For years, Rihanna and A$AP Rocky maintained a friendship before transitioning to a romantic relationship in 2019. Rocky had an instinct that their bond would evolve into a love story.
In a recent interview with W magazine, the rapper reminisced about the moment he realized Rihanna would eventually become the mother of his children. The couple now shares two sons, RZA, who is two years old, and one-year-old Riot.
Reflecting on their connection, Rocky said, “I knew from when we were younger. We both did, I think. So it was only right when we got older. We just kind of reconnected.” He noted that this reconnection occurred around “kind of, sort of 2019, 2020.”

Rocky also recounted their initial meeting, explaining, “There’s a lot of history between us. I was kicked out of this nightclub. They weren’t giving me any access. This is when I was just starting out, so nobody knew me.
I was with Matthew Williams and Virgil [Abloh]. I was getting into it with the bouncers, and she came out. We just locked eyes. She didn’t even know us, but she was like, ‘Yo! Why y’all not letting him in? What’s wrong with you?! Let that man in!’”
When discussing their children, he shared insights about their sons’ personalities: “I think RZA is going to keep to himself. He’s an introvert. Riot’s an extrovert—he’s just like his mom. RZA is more so like his dad, like me.
And he’s my twin. He got his mom’s forehead, but he got everything else from me. I love my boy’s big forehead! I loved it on his mother.” Rocky added, “Riot looks up to RZA. I think RZA’s warming up to Riot.”
He expressed admiration for the support he receives from Rihanna, describing her as his “companion, my woman, my partner.” He noted, “She knows when to hold it down.
I think we both have our niches, our things that we do that we’re good at. She could never be a great dad because she’s a great mom. And I could never be a great mom because I’m the greatest dad in the whole wide world.”
In April, Rihanna reflected on their love story during an interview with Interview, revealing that their relationship shifted in 2019. “We’ve known each other for a long time,” she stated. “I’ve seen him in relationships.
He’s seen me in relationships. We’ve seen each other outside of relationships. We knew what we’re capable of and the trouble we could bring to each other’s lives. We can make or break each other’s hearts.
And so, we started dating with a lot of caution. I just let whatever was supposed to happen, happen. It was just, ‘This is a flower. It’s either going to die or blossom. But I’m going to let it decide itself.’”
