In a heartfelt statement, Jennifer Lopez emphasized her authenticity by declaring, “I’m Real.” The pop star opened up about her divorce from Ben Affleck in the latest issue of Interview magazine, which was released on Oct. 9.
During her conversation with Nikki Glaser, Lopez revealed that, despite her confident exterior, the negativity surrounding her split on social media can have an impact on her. “I recognize that everything being said and written about me, along with the speculation surrounding my character, does not represent who I truly am. I learned that lesson a long time ago,” she explained.
Having been in the entertainment industry long before the advent of social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok, the 55-year-old actress shared that she doesn’t take online commentary as seriously as others might. However, she acknowledged that hurtful remarks can still sting.
“My life’s passion revolves around singing, dancing, acting, entertaining, and creating. To be clear, if I encounter something hurtful, I’m not made of steel,” Lopez admitted.
The versatile performer recognized her inclination to concentrate on criticism. “As an entertainer, you might find yourself onstage in front of 50,000 enthusiastic fans, while one or two people remain unengaged,” she noted, adding, “Those are the individuals who draw your attention.”
Reflecting on this tendency, she commented, “It’s just human nature. After every costume change backstage, I’d step back out and think, ‘Did I manage to reach those few people?’ while ignoring the other 49,998 who were enjoying the show.”
J.Lo concluded that to succeed in her field, it’s essential to understand that the negativity often stems from a small number of people who may be struggling with their own dissatisfaction.
