Fans should know that Jennifer Lopez is adamant about her authenticity, declaring, “I’m Real.” In the latest issue of Interview magazine, released on October 9, she discussed her divorce from Ben Affleck with Nikki Glaser.
During their conversation, Lopez acknowledged that although she projects confidence, the negativity she faces on social media regarding her split does affect her. She explained, “I know that everything that’s being written and said about me, and all the conjecture of who I am as a person, is not who I am.
I learned that a long time ago.” Having been in the industry long before the advent of social media platforms like Instagram or TikTok, Lopez admitted she doesn’t take online criticism as seriously as others might. Nonetheless, she confessed that hurtful comments still sting.
“This is my life’s passion. I love to sing. I love to dance. I love to act. I love to entertain. I love to create,” she stated, revealing that negative remarks can get under her skin.
Lopez shared her tendency to fixate on critics, describing, “As an entertainer, sometimes you’ll be onstage in an arena of 50,000 people, and everybody’s jumping up and down, singing and laughing, and then there’ll be one or two people with resting bitch face.”
She noted that it’s “human nature” to focus on detractors, saying, “Every time I’d go backstage to change, I’d come back out and check and I’d say, ‘Did I get them yet?’ Ignoring the other 49,998 people that are there.”
She came to understand that if she wanted to thrive in the entertainment world, she needed to realize that those critics represent a very small group, likely unhappy in their own lives.
