Cheryl Hines exuded a positive spirit while marking the 50th anniversary of her improv group. On October 19, the Curb Your Enthusiasm actress, now 59, attended The Groundlings’ celebration in Los Angeles despite recent public attention involving her husband, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and reports of his alleged personal involvement with journalist Olivia Nuzzi.
When asked how she was feeling during the event at the Jonathan Club, Hines smiled and replied, “I’m feeling good. Feeling good.” She was spotted wearing what appeared to be her wedding ring and fielded questions alongside her longtime friend, comedian Rachael Harris.
Hines also reflected on the upcoming election, given that Kennedy ran as an independent candidate earlier this year before suspending his campaign in August. “We’re almost at the finish line,” she remarked. “It’s down to 17 days—or maybe 16? I check the countdown every morning, but somehow I forget by the next day. Either way, it’s coming fast, and I feel very calm about it.”
During the event, she spoke fondly of her years with The Groundlings, explaining how the experience shaped her professional journey. She noted, “I made lifelong friends here. Rachael and I go way back, though we don’t need to put an exact number on it. Learning improv and sketch comedy here gave me the skills that eventually led to Curb Your Enthusiasm.
It completely altered the course of my life.” While at the celebration, Hines also posed for photos with fellow comedians Will Forte and Mindy Sterling, enjoying the lively atmosphere. The anniversary gathering followed last month’s news that Nuzzi, 31, had been placed on leave by New York magazine after acknowledging a personal relationship with someone connected to the 2024 election campaign.
Sources revealed tension between Hines and Kennedy, with one insider stating they barely communicated for two weeks. Another source claimed in early October that Hines had considered filing for divorce, but Kennedy pleaded with her not to go through with it.
Despite the turbulence, the couple has shown a united front publicly. They were photographed holding hands at the Kennedy family estate in Hyannis Port after the passing of Kennedy’s mother, Ethel.
The two also shared a kiss at the Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner on October 17, where Hines gently touched Kennedy’s face in an affectionate gesture. The high-profile event saw several prominent figures in attendance, including Donald and Melania Trump, Michael Bloomberg, and New York City Mayor Eric Adams.
A day earlier, Hines and Kennedy arrived hand in hand at Ethel Kennedy’s memorial service in Washington, D.C. Following his mother’s death, Kennedy posted a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, describing the values she passed on to her children.
He highlighted her passion for storytelling, her athletic spirit, curiosity about the world, and love for engaging with people from all walks of life, noting how she would eagerly ask questions of everyone she met—from cab drivers to heads of state. Hines responded to his post in the comments, writing, “This is beautiful. Your mother was incredibly proud of you.”
