Joey King has always admired Channing Tatum. During a conversation with Tatum, 44, for Interview magazine, King, 25, reflected on how the actor provided unwavering support while they portrayed father and daughter in the 2013 political thriller White House Down.
“You have always been one of the most supportive and kind people I have ever worked with, and it remains that way to this very day,” King expressed to Tatum in their August interview, which was published on October 22. The actress also took a moment to commend Tatum after recalling that the on-set teacher she had while filming was her “favorite teacher of all time.”
Joey King previously described her collaboration with director Roland Emmerich as “an all-around incredible experience.”
Tatum responded warmly, saying, “Oh man, I have so many other questions but I’ll just have to ask them in person. You’re truly a very special human, and nothing I could have asked would ever let anybody in on how special you are. I love you so much and I want people to get even just a glimpse of how dope you are.”
In White House Down, Tatum portrays John Cale, a Capitol policeman who takes his daughter Emily (King) on a tour of the White House, only to discover he is the only one who can rescue the president (Jamie Foxx) from a violent attack.
Reflecting on the experience back in 2014, King shared with Cosmopolitan that collaborating with director Roland Emmerich was “an all-around incredible experience.”
“I also loved the fact that I got to work with an actor that I admired so much, Channing Tatum,” she recalled. “I went in for a screen test before I got the job, and I read with him, and I was so excited because I loved his work so much.
My sisters, when they heard I was going for a screen test with him, were like, ‘Oh my God, he’s so hot. Amazing. Love him.'” The two actors had a chance to reconnect when they both appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in July.
