The relationship between Freddie Freeman and his wife, Chelsea, began in June 2011, culminating in their marriage in November 2014.
As Freddie competes in the World Series with the Los Angeles Dodgers starting October 25, Chelsea remains his unwavering supporter throughout his baseball journey.
Together, they proudly raise three sons: Charlie, born in 2016, and twins Brandon John and Maximus Turner, who joined the family in late 2020 and early 2021, through surrogacy and Chelsea’s pregnancy.
After giving birth to Charlie, Chelsea shared her experiences with fertility struggles on social media. Freddie remarked in February 2021 to ESPN, “When she told her story, it was just like … we’re normal people, you know. I know you guys see me on TV a lot, playing baseball, but we go through the same things. We tried so hard.”
Freddie expressed to MLB.com that being away from his family is one of the most challenging aspects of his professional career. He acknowledged, “I know there are so many people who are gone way longer than me in the military and stuff like that. I get it, but I’m not built to be able to do that. I need my family.”
Chelsea Freeman, born Chelsea Marie Goff on April 24, 1991, grew up in Florida and attended the University of Central Florida. While Chelsea was in college, she began dating Freddie, who had already been drafted by the Atlanta Braves straight out of high school in 2007.
The couple got engaged in January 2014, less than a year after Chelsea graduated in 2013. Reflecting on their relationship, she noted in 2014 how he makes her smile every day and how he has always been her first love.
Before their wedding, Chelsea made an appearance on a season 8 episode of Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta, showcasing the stunning dresses she selected for their special day.
They tied the knot on November 22, 2014, at the St. Regis Bal Harbour in Miami Beach, Florida. Freddie praised her wedding gown during the show, expressing that it was perfect for her, and he emphasized how their wedding surpassed all his accomplishments, looking forward to a life shared together.
As a family, Chelsea and Freddie are devoted parents to three boys. Their first son, Frederick Charles Freeman II, affectionately known as Charlie, was born on September 15, 2016. The couple’s twins, Brandon and Maximus, were born just months apart in 2020 and 2021.
Chelsea has openly discussed their journey through pregnancy difficulties, particularly after Charlie’s emergency cesarean birth. She described the extensive medical procedures and appointments she endured, often alone during the baseball season, and how emotionally draining it was to infertility.
To expand their family, they opted for surrogacy while Chelsea surprisingly became pregnant at nearly the same time. They welcomed Brandon, named after Chelsea’s grandfather, on December 20, 2020, and Maximus, whose middle name honors the Atlanta Braves’ former stadium, on February 14, 2021. Freddie shared that their story is inspirational, emphasizing the emotional journey they faced while trying to grow their family.
Chelsea frequently shares moments with their three sons on Instagram, capturing their experiences attending Freddie’s games. Recently, the family celebrated together at the 2023 MLB All-Star Game in Seattle, where Chelsea expressed excitement about their journey.
Chelsea conveyed to ESPN in November 2020 that Freddie has always dreamed of being a father, highlighting how much he values fatherhood alongside his baseball career.
Following the Atlanta Braves’ 2021 World Series victory, Chelsea and Charlie joined Freddie on the field for the celebration. While many anticipated that Freddie would retire as a Brave, he signed a six-year contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2022 after 12 seasons with Atlanta.
Chelsea has consistently expressed her support throughout Freddie’s career, including a heartfelt Instagram post after his first season with the Dodgers. She described the season as a testament to resilience and commended Freddie for becoming a better player and person.
Chelsea has also established herself as a businesswoman. Initially a real estate agent in Georgia, she transitioned into entrepreneurship, founding the Chelsea Freeman Collection, an online boutique specializing in game day apparel for both Atlanta and Los Angeles.
Her presence on the red carpet has become outstanding as she has attended numerous high-profile events with Freddie, showcasing her glamorous style. Most recently, they graced the 81st Golden Globes in January 2024, where Chelsea shone in a stunning Oscar de la Renta gown while Freddie looked dapper in a Tom Ford tuxedo.
