The cast of Claws, including Carrie Preston, shares a close bond. In an interview with PEOPLE featured in this week’s issue, the 57-year-old actress disclosed that she maintains a lively group chat with her former castmates.
“I have a text thread that goes pretty much every day,” Preston shared, reminiscing about the last time she had a good laugh. “We’re always posting silly things.” One particular post that brought laughter to the group involved a humorous take on New York’s unpredictable weather. “Yesterday it was something called ’13 Seasons of New York,’” she explained about the amusing message in the chat.

“It made me giggle,” she continued. “It goes like, winter, then full spring, then second winter, then spring of deception, then third winter, then pothole, then actual spring, then the pollening, then summer, then hell’s front porch, then fool’s fall, then second summer, and then actual fall.”
As the lead in CBS’s Elsbeth, Preston discussed more with the magazine for their segment, One Last Thing:
On her most recent dance moment, she revealed, “I do funny dances for my husband [actor Michael Emerson] pretty much every day. It makes him laugh; it delights him.
No matter what’s playing on the radio, I always try to come up with some clever interpretive dance to go with the song. He is always incredibly enchanted with how well I’m able to capture a song—given that I am not a formal dancer in any way, shape, or form.”
Her motivation stems from his enjoyment. “Nothing makes me happier than watching him giggle at something that I’m doing that’s absolutely and ridiculously silly.”
Describing their last date night, she mentioned, “We’ll do a museum date, and we’ll go to MoMA or the Whitney or The Morgan Library. We’ll visit smaller museums and just have a great afternoon together looking at art, and we usually get lunch afterward.”
Reflecting on her recent guilty pleasure, Preston said, “This past weekend, my family and I made homemade ice cream with Levain Bakery’s chocolate chip cookies. That was pretty decadent, and I definitely indulged myself in that treat. I’m a sucker for a really good chocolate chip cookie, and there’s always a line.”
She elaborated on the dessert experience, noting, “If you put homemade ice cream on top of them, it is truly sinfully delicious. They’re so rich that you can’t really do it all the time, but when you do, you savor every bite.”
Preston enjoyed a four-day weekend in Cold Spring, New York, with her family, where they visited Dia Beacon, a fantastic museum in the area. “We grilled, we went swimming, we took a hike—all of those things are some of my favorite activities. So to be able to do it all in one weekend was pretty much heaven.”
