During a recent discussion at the New Yorker Festival, Shepard shared his insights on his wife’s new role and her kissing skills. The Armchair Expert host reflected on the chemistry between Kristen Bell and Adam Brody in the Netflix series Nobody Wants This, highlighting their interactions while recalling their work together on Samsung commercials.
When asked about the pair’s “incredible chemistry,” Shepard’s reply caught many off guard. “Not as good as her and Brody,” he remarked, referencing the O.C. actor.
He reminisced about watching the show with a friend, saying, “We watched that scene together, the kissing scene, which I’d argue is the very best kissing scene ever, ever put on film,” referring to the moment shared between Bell and Brody’s characters.
Shepard humorously recalled how his childhood friend Aaron questioned him, asking, “Does she ever kiss you like that?” to which he replied, “No, I didn’t even know she could kiss like that.”
Nobody Wants This centers on an agnostic sex podcaster, played by Bell, who falls for a newly single rabbi, portrayed by Brody. Their relationship is complicated by their contrasting lifestyles and meddling family members, prompting viewers to wonder if love can truly conquer all. The show, inspired by Erin Foster’s real-life romance, was renewed for a second season on October 10.
Bell has previously discussed her steamy scenes with Brody, noting her husband’s enthusiastic reactions. “Even I can acknowledge watching it, like, ‘Whoa, that’s hot,’” she shared with E! News, adding that Shepard was equally impressed while watching the first episode, exclaiming, “Oh my God, I want you to kiss him so badly.”
The Frozen star also highlighted the complexity behind their on-screen performances, stating, “I’m not trying to be reductive, but I think there’s a math to it.” She elaborated on the importance of creating tension before a kiss, emphasizing the need for actors to possess the confidence to build anticipation in their scenes.
