Galey Alix Reveals Emotional Struggles of Watching Ex Dale Moss on Social Media

Dale Moss and Galey Alix’s relationship concludes on a respectful note

Galey Alix candidly discusses the factors contributing to her breakup with Dale Moss and their current relationship status. In an open dialogue with PEOPLE, the designer and social media personality reflects on the conclusion of her two-and-a-half-year romance with Moss.

“Nobody was unfaithful, nobody said anything nasty or attacking or biting. We were two people who really respected each other and cared about each other and were sad to say goodbye,” Alix shares. She adds that despite their separation, they still hold deep affection for one another, noting, “It just isn’t meant to be.”

Expressing her hopes for future friendship, Alix states, “I hope we can be friends in the long run; I would like to be. I just don’t know what that’s going to look like.” She mentions the challenge of seeing Moss on social media, interacting with mutual friends, which prompted her to temporarily unfollow some accounts to protect her emotions. “I think anyone would understand that,” she concludes.

Alix first announced the breakup during an episode of her podcast, Wholeheartedly with Kendall and Galey, which aired on October 9. She had previously discussed their relationship in a June 2023 interview with PEOPLE.

Their paths first crossed when she reached out through direct messages after hearing him on a past episode of the Girls Gotta Eat podcast from 2018. While Bachelor Nation might recognize Moss from his time on season 16 of The Bachelorette, Alix was unaware of his background, which included a brief NFL career and modeling work two years prior.

Intrigued by his voice, Alix took a chance, and within days of contacting him, they were on their first date, bonding over shared experiences of past engagements that both ended in 2021.

As their relationship evolved, Moss frequently traveled from New York to spend time with Alix, even helping with home renovations for her former HGTV show, Home in a Heartbeat.

However, Alix now admits that their relationship was not without its flaws. “The best way I can describe the relationship is that good is the enemy of great,” she reflects. “I work really, really hard in everything that I do: being a dog mom, being a homeowner, being a designer, a renovator, a podcaster, and a content creator on social media.

In everything I do, I try to be great. I give it my absolute best. But if something is good, I feel like I didn’t do enough. And when I look at that relationship, I think we both would say it was good, but it wasn’t great.”

Alix elaborates, stating, “Something was missing. And I can’t quite place what it was, but when you’ve been with someone through enough seasons together, and it’s still not there, you kind of know it’s never going to be there.”

Acknowledging the difficulties posed by their long-distance arrangement, Alix commends Moss for his dedication, saying, “I give kudos to him because he flew almost every week, if not every couple of weeks, to be with me.” She emphasizes her desire not to be the sole traveler in their relationship, stating that he willingly took on that responsibility.

A realization came to her when she considered the possibility of Moss wanting to end the relationship. “I sort of realized that if he came and told me he wanted to leave tomorrow, I would not have fought his decision. And he deserves somebody that would fight for him.”

Alix did not arrive at the decision to break up easily. “It was a really, really hard decision — and I was the one to make the decision — but I know it was the right decision for both of us, not just me,” she explains. She believes that deep down, Moss will appreciate that the relationship ended when it did, allowing him to eventually find a more suitable love, which she hopes for herself as well.

Expressing her affection, she remarks, “I love him so much. I know that he deserves somebody who looks at him in a way that they feel he’s great. And it’s sad, but when I really thought about it, I knew that wasn’t me.”

Processing her emotions remains a challenge for her. “To be in a relationship with a really good human who you care about and respect, and who you know deep down is solid and wonderful but not right for you, and who you know will be hurt by your choice to part ways? That is a really sad and hard pill to swallow,” Alix acknowledges.

Her tendency to please others complicates matters further. “Oh, I’m someone who will cut off my own foot if it avoids confrontation or hurting somebody else,” she admits. “It’s why I literally destroy my body for 72 hours to try and make a stranger, who I might never see again, happy with their home. That’s how much joy I get out of making people happy.

It is my drug of choice. But I suppose I take comfort in knowing that this will one day please him because he’ll wind up with the right person.” Recently, Moss has been romantically linked to influencer Remi Bader, as they have engaged in flirty exchanges online, although they have not confirmed their relationship status.

Alix recalls a conversation she had with Moss prior to the podcast release: “I called him before the podcast came out, and I told him everything I was going to say. I was very honest, straightforward, and transparent with him, because that’s how much I respect him. And he said, ‘You don’t need to tell me anymore. I trust you. I’m not going to listen, but I know that you’ll speak highly of me.’ And I always will speak highly of him.”

Expressing her optimism for maintaining a friendship, she notes, “So again, I’m hopeful we’ll stay friends and stay in touch. We’ve both said we want to do that. And we’re going to meet up sometime before the end of this year for lunch when he’s in Florida, just to talk. But we wanted to do it when things weren’t so emotionally charged right after the breakup.”

In the meantime, Alix is focused on her design business and several exciting product launches on the horizon. On November 8, she will debut the Galey Alix x Livabliss rug collection, featuring 34 pieces she designed, which will be available for purchase online through Amazon, Wayfair, Home Depot, Lowe’s, and Bed Bath & Beyond.

Additionally, she has lighting, furniture, and decor collaborations slated for release in January, as well as a wallpaper line launching the week of November 11. “It’s good to focus on things like this and take my mind off the pain,” she remarks. “And the podcast, too, has been a wonderful, wonderful outlet. Even if it’s not helping other people, it’s definitely helping me.”
