Adam Sandler’s Family Life: A Closer Look at His Daughters Sadie and Sunny

The Sandlers have kept family life private, but Adam often shares glimpses of his love for his daughters

Adam Sandler proudly embraces his role as a father to two daughters. He and his wife, Jackie, celebrated the arrival of their first child, Sadie, in 2006, marking the beginning of their family journey.

Shortly after Sadie’s birth, Adam expressed his enthusiasm for fatherhood, stating, “It’s fun. It’s great. I love that kid … I was dying to do it.” His family grew when Sunny was born in late 2008, and since then, the Sandlers have maintained a relatively private life concerning their children.

In a 2018 interview with HuffPost, Adam shared the joys and challenges of parenting: “My kids give me the most joy, but there are life adjustments. I don’t go out to meet anyone after 9:30 at night. I eat dinner at 6 or 7. If someone makes me stay out until 10:30 at night, I’m angry the entire next day because I’m exhausted.”

Over the years, both daughters have made appearances in their father’s films, including the 2020 Netflix comedy “Hubie Halloween.” However, it was in 2023 that Sadie and Sunny took on lead roles in “You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah.”

The film portrays Stacy (Sunny), a seventh grader planning her bat mitzvah while her friendship fallout, with encouragement from her mother (Idina Menzel) and sister (Sadie) to mend their bond. Adam stars as Stacy’s father, and Jackie plays a character named Gabi.

As a major Hollywood actor, Adam has access to exclusive events. He took his daughters to the Los Angeles premiere of Taylor Swift’s concert film in October 2023, where they had the chance to meet the pop icon after the screening.

Reflecting on this memorable outing, Adam shared on the “New Heights” podcast how much it meant to his kids: “What a girl. Dude, she means so much to our house,” noting how the family celebrates moments involving Swift.

In August 2024, Adam opened up to PEOPLE about how his daughters are looking out for his health, much like he did with his own father. He remarked, “You go, ‘Man, I want this guy around,’ so I used to scream at my dad to quit smoking, and my kids scream at me to just calm down and try to eat a little more like a normal person.”

From their early days away from the public eye to their breakout roles on Netflix, Adam and Jackie Sandler’s daughters, Sadie and Sunny, have been on quite a journey.

Sadie Sandler, 18

On May 6, 2006, Sadie Madison Sandler made her entrance into the world as Adam and Jackie’s first child. Adam humorously commented on Sadie’s early developmental quirks, joking that she often stared at his forehead rather than at him while they played together.

When Sadie was just 14 months old, Adam playfully declared that he had taken over as her favorite parent during an appearance on “The Tonight Show.” He shared, “We’re very tight with this child – everything we do is about the kid… it was my wife the whole time, and then the last month or two, it’s all Sandler.”

Sadie’s journey in the spotlight began early, as she made her first on-screen appearance in Adam’s 2008 film “You Don’t Mess with the Zohan.” That same year, she appeared in “Bedtime Stories,” where Adam’s character’s storytelling mishaps mirrored his own struggles with bedtime routines. He confessed, “I’m not great at the bedtime stories,” admitting that instead of calming her down, his tales often left Sadie more energized.

During a 2008 segment on “Live with Regis and Kelly,” Adam recounted a memorable moment when Sadie inadvertently revealed that he would soon become a father of two. He described how she presented him with a gift, which turned out to be a pregnancy test, leading to a delightful surprise.

In 2019, Adam discussed the bittersweet experience of watching Sadie grow up on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” admitting that hearing her talk about boys made him anxious. “I drive around with [her and] her friends and I hear them talking about boys now … it’s amazing, the feelings I had about the same boys five years ago.”

For Sadie’s bat mitzvah, Adam went above and beyond to make the occasion unforgettable, arranging for Adam Levine to perform at the celebration. On “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” he recounted how he texted Levine, asking, “Would you mind coming and singing a few tunes?

It would be incredible.” Levine agreed, surprising Sadie and her friends at the event. Adam remarked on her delighted reaction, saying, “Oh, she hugged me so much, my Sadie.”

In February 2024, Sadie joined her parents at an NBA game, enjoying a courtside experience while watching the Los Angeles Lakers play against the Denver Nuggets.

Sunny Sandler, 16

Sunny Madeline Sandler entered the world on November 2, 2008, and Adam proudly announced her arrival on his website, describing her as “beautiful” and sharing that “everyone is happy and healthy.”

Following in Sadie’s footsteps, Sunny has also appeared in numerous films alongside her father, including “Grown Ups,” “Blended,” and “Murder Mystery.”

Despite her early start in acting, Sunny has expressed a desire to carve out her own path in the industry. Adam humorously noted, “They wanna do their own thing one day,” reflecting on how his daughters have begun to seek opportunities beyond his projects.

Sunny has showcased her musical talents as well. During one of Adam’s comedy shows in June 2019, she sang “A Million Dreams” from “The Greatest Showman,” receiving an enthusiastic standing ovation from the audience.

In October of that same year, she joined her father on stage for a charity performance, where they sang Taylor Swift’s “Lover” together. Adam shared their excitement with the crowd, noting their nerves but also their enthusiasm to perform.

For Sunny’s bat mitzvah in May 2022, Adam once again utilized his celebrity connections to enhance the celebration. The star-studded event included appearances from former co-stars like Jennifer Aniston and Taylor Lautner, as well as performances by Charlie Puth and Halsey.

Halsey later described the celebration on “The Tonight Show,” saying, “It was the craziest bat mitzvah I’ve ever seen in my life. It was like… I mean, it was like Coachella.”

Sunny clearly enjoyed the attention from the A-list guest list. After a TikTok user shared a video from the event, showcasing various celebrities, she encapsulated the occasion with a simple yet telling comment: “Viral.”

In a memorable moment at the 2022 Gotham Awards, Sunny and Sadie had the opportunity to write their father’s acceptance speech when he received the Film Tribute Award.

Adam shared this amusing interaction on stage, highlighting how his daughters had fun crafting a speech filled with playful jabs at him. He concluded his heartfelt speech by expressing gratitude to his wife and daughters for their essential roles in his life.
