Brian Austin Green and Soleil Moon Frye have shared a close friendship for decades, and their bond remains as strong as ever. At the Rhode Island Comic Con’s “Back to School” panel on Nov. 2, the Beverly Hills, 90210 alum, 51, reflected on meeting the Punky Brewster star, 48, for the first time and admitted he initially felt “starstruck.”
“My first time meeting Soleil was at her 12th birthday party while she was doing Punky Brewster,” Green recalled. “The party was at a hotel, and even Johnny Depp and Bubbles the Chimp were there. Everyone was thinking, ‘Wow, Punky Brewster is 12!’”
He added that he was struck by her celebrity status initially, saying, “I remember thinking, ‘Oh my God, it’s Punky Brewster,’ but then realizing right away how normal and down-to-earth she was.”
Once the initial awe faded, the two quickly became “fast friends” and spent much of their time together. Green reminisced about how teen magazines would send young stars on outings to capture photos.
Frye chimed in, agreeing it was an exciting time, as they’d often visit places like Magic Mountain and Six Flags. Green mentioned that much of the footage in Frye’s Kid 90 documentary captures moments from those outings.
During that era, Frye’s mother had a catering business, often hosting large parties filled with friends and celebrities at her home. “We were just kids in the industry, all getting together,” Green said. Frye added, “It was such an innocent time.”
Green remarked on the tight-knit friendships they formed, explaining, “The industry was smaller then, so you’d naturally become close with everyone you saw regularly. People like Leonardo DiCaprio, as seen in Kid 90, were part of that circle. We’d hang out almost four days a week at soda pop parties.”
Their friendship also included special moments outside of the Hollywood scene, as Frye recalled how thrilled she was when Green would come to pick her up from school. “It was such a memorable time, and now it’s amazing to watch our own kids grow up together,” she shared with a smile, “It’s truly beautiful to see.”
