For Katharine McPhee and her husband David Foster, age is merely a number. On November 3, the renowned producer and composer marked his 75th birthday with a spectacular concert titled You’re the Inspiration: David Foster, organized by Live Nation-Hewitt Silva at the Hollywood Bowl, where his wife performed among a host of other talented artists.
Reflecting on the milestone event, McPhee expressed to PEOPLE, “It’s a big number. It’s exciting.” The star-studded lineup included vocalists such as Kristin Chenoweth, Josh Groban, Andrea Bocelli, Michael Bublé, and Jennifer Hudson, adding to the celebratory atmosphere.
Foster’s birthday follows McPhee’s recent 40th birthday in March. However, the American Idol alum emphasized that they do not dwell on these ages. “Honestly, I think that we’re both very similar in this way,” she explained. “I welcomed my 40s, and David didn’t have any conversations about, like, ‘Oh, I can’t believe I’m 75,’ nor did I express, ‘Oh, I can’t believe I’m 40. I’m really mourning that.’”
Married in 2019, McPhee remarked, “We didn’t do any of that. So we’re kind of both cut from the same cloth. It’s like we sort of just accept life as it comes, and we’re not fighting getting older, because it just keeps getting better.”
Foster, who shares a 3½-year-old son named Rennie with McPhee, also has five daughters—Allison, 54, Amy, 51, Sara, 43, Erin, 42, and Jordan, 39—from previous relationships.
In a separate interview with PEOPLE at the concert, Foster echoed a similar view about any nerves surrounding their birthdays. “She’s fine, and I don’t even think about it either,” he shared. “You know, I’m just groovin’.”
Discussing his birthday festivities beyond the Hollywood Bowl concert, he noted, “It’s kind of a blur.” He added, “We had a big fundraiser last night, on rehearsal day, on my birthday on Friday. So it hasn’t caught up with me.
I haven’t really celebrated my birthday yet, but last night was a big blowout for my foundation.” Foster concluded, “And tonight, of course, is the concert. I think maybe tomorrow I’ll think that I’ve just turned 75.”
