Over the years, many royal figures have captured the public’s heart (who didn’t have a Prince William poster as a kid?), but there’s one royal you may not be as familiar with—Alexander Ogilvy.
The 27-year-old grandson of Princess Alexandra, Queen Elizabeth’s cousin, is making a name for himself at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, the same prestigious institution where Prince Harry and Prince William once studied.
Currently enrolled in a demanding 44-week course at Sandhurst, Ogilvy follows in the footsteps of other royals, including the Duke of Kent, who also attended the academy. Both Prince Harry and Prince William graduated from the British military school in 2006.
Ogilvy’s decision to attend Sandhurst might be surprising to some, especially considering his background as a Brown University graduate and his previous career as a product manager for NYC tech company Prove. The young royal also once dated Michaela Kennedy-Cuomo, the daughter of Robert F. Kennedy.
Born in 1996 to James Ogilvy, Princess Alexandra’s son, and his wife Julia Rawlinson, Alexander grew up alongside his older sister, Flora. Although neither sibling holds an official royal title or carries out royal duties, Alexander is currently 59th in line to the throne.
Flora, an art historian, wed Timothy Vesterberg in a beautiful 2021 wedding, and she expressed her pride in her brother’s military journey on Instagram in September, saying, “We’re full of admiration for you. Forever thoughtful and inspiring.”
While Flora shines in the art world, Alexander has opted for a more private life but occasionally joins royal family events, such as attending Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in 2022. For now, fans will have to wait for photos of Alexander in uniform, but one thing’s for certain—this royal is making his mark.
