Jenn Tran recently shared how her Dancing with the Stars partner, Sasha Farber, has been a source of support during her breakup with Bachelorette finalist Devin Strader.
Speaking with PEOPLE at the Wicked premiere in Los Angeles on November 9, the 26-year-old reflected on her close relationship with Farber, 39, noting how they have supported each other since she was eliminated from the competition in seventh place last week. Tran admitted she already misses their time together on the dance floor.
The Bachelorette star expressed the emotional difficulty she’s faced since her elimination on October 29. “Honestly, the past week has been really tough,” Tran shared, explaining how the first day without dancing felt unusual.
“It’s the first day after I woke up and I was like, ‘Today’s the first day in seven weeks that I won’t dance a single step,’ which is just sad. I truly had the time of my life while I was on DWTS.” She fondly recalled how it had been one of the best periods of her life.
Though she plans to continue dancing, Tran acknowledged the challenges of pursuing it further as an adult. “I really love dancing and I want to continue dancing, but when you’re an adult, it’s like, ‘What am I going to do? Take dance classes and then what?'” she said. Still, she remains committed to taking dance classes and hopes to return for the season finale, where she plans to perform with Farber.
Farber has been a guiding presence for Tran, particularly when the public fallout from her breakup with Strader created online drama. He consistently reminded her to focus on what truly matters: her family and friends.
“He kept reminding me that it’s the stuff that’s not online that really matters,” she explained. “It’s your friends and family who know you the best that really matters.”
After her breakup with Strader, Tran had to cope with the repercussion of public scrutiny. “Right after the breakup, I was going through a lot of stuff being said online,” she recalled. “I had to just turn my phone off.” Farber helped her keep perspective during this difficult time, advising her to focus on the people who truly cared for her.
“Sasha really helped ground me and tell me that it’s my friends and family who really matter at the end of the day,” she said. “Everything’s going to blow over on social media, and just keep doing me because at the end of the day, I only have myself, right?”
Tran and Strader’s relationship ended shortly after a proposal in Hawaii. During the After the Final Rose special, she explained, “As soon as we had left Hawaii, things were just different.”
She described how Strader began pulling away from the promises he had made, such as moving together and maintaining their plans for the future. Their engagement ended when Strader called her, telling her he wanted to break things off over the phone.
Reflecting on her time with DWTS, Tran shared some valuable lessons she gained from Farber’s mentorship. “I’m someone who’s not detail-oriented at all. I’m very much like — I do whatever, I’m on my own timeline,” she said. “But with music and choreography and counting music, you have to be on point, so he really helped me become more detail-oriented.”
However, she appreciated Farber’s role as both a friend and a support system during a challenging period. “He’s just such an amazing guy to have while I was going through so much,” Tran said. “To have such a good human and a good friend throughout the whole thing, I really feel like it was such a healing process for me.”
