On Sunday, Nov. 10, Bindi Irwin and her husband Chandler Powell gave their followers a look into a special moment with their daughter Grace Warrior. In a heartwarming Instagram video, Powell introduced their 3-year-old to a baby greater glider, a small marsupial native to eastern Australia.
The video captured Powell, 27, bringing Grace into a room at the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital where he showed her the baby glider. “Check out the greater glider,” Powell said as he opened a pouch containing the animal. Grace immediately called it “so cute.”
After admiring the glider, Grace asked, “Is she a little baby?” to which Powell responded, “She’s a little baby. How sweet is that?” Grace noted the glider’s “little, pink nose” as it peeked out of the pouch.
Powell then explained how baby marsupials live in pouches, prompting Grace to guess other pouch-dwelling animals. She mentioned “koalas,” then, after a pause, added “baby wombats” before concluding with “baby kangaroos.”
Powell also taught Grace about the glider’s unique ability to glide from tree to tree using “little webbing.” “Sharing a greater glider with our sweet daughter, Grace, at the #AustraliaZooWildlifeHospital 💚,” the couple captioned the post.
According to the Australian Conservation Foundation, greater gliders have become endangered, with an 80% population decline in the past 20 years. Habitat loss, bushfires, and climate change are key factors contributing to their decline.
Bindi and Chandler, married in March 2020, welcomed Grace in May 2021. In a September Q&A on the Australia Zoo YouTube channel, the couple addressed questions about expanding their family.
Powell discussed the challenges of Irwin’s endometriosis, calling Grace’s birth an “absolute miracle,” while both parents expressed their happiness with their family of three.
Irwin also shared her thoughts on sensitive questions about having more children, advising fans to be mindful of how personal such inquiries can be. The family has kept fans updated on their life together, sharing moments such as Grace’s recent Halloween costume as a giraffe and her help building sandcastles with her dad at the beach.
