Matt LaFleur has consistently acknowledged the unwavering support from his wife, BreAnne, throughout the various stages of his football journey. Starting his NFL coaching career in 2008 as an offensive assistant with the Houston Texans, Matt later moved on to become a quarterback coach for teams such as the Washington Commanders, Atlanta Falcons, and Tennessee Titans.
Eventually, he became the head coach of the Green Bay Packers, where he mentored quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers and Jordan Love. However, Matt’s relationship with BreAnne began long before these high-profile coaching roles, during his time as an offensive assistant at Central Michigan University when BreAnne worked as a student trainer.
In a conversation with The Athletic, Matt shared that their first encounter occurred on a football field, where he spotted her around town, and a conversation sparked from there. Since then, they have remained inseparable.
Before raising their two sons, Ty and Luke, BreAnne worked as a pharmaceutical representative. Reflecting on her husband’s ability to switch from an intense football coach to a playful dad, she praised his dedication to family life, describing how he always maintained a cheerful demeanor when coming home from work. “It’s amazing to see him go from passionate coach to wrestling with our kids,” she said in an interview with PackersNews.com.
BreAnne’s professional background includes a career in pharmaceuticals after graduating from Central Michigan University. She started as a pharmaceutical sales representative and was soon adjusting to life alongside Matt’s coaching journey.
In 2010, when Matt became the quarterback coach for the Washington Commanders, they faced the challenge of relocating, which BreAnne handled with her usual calmness.
Their first encounter took place in 2004, but it wasn’t exactly love at first sight. BreAnne was working as a student trainer while Matt was coaching at Central Michigan. During a practice session, Matt had to shout at her to move out of the way of a drill. In a later story, Matt recalls this as their first conversation, but it wasn’t the most romantic start.
Despite the rough beginning, the two crossed paths again when Matt became a regular customer at the tanning salon where BreAnne worked. After a few sessions, he asked her out, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Before their relationship became more serious, Matt was upfront with BreAnne about the challenges of being married to a football coach. He warned her that life as his wife would be difficult, with the constant upheaval of coaching changes and relocations. Still, BreAnne embraced it fully. “There are two kinds of wives, coaches’ wives and ex-wives,” Matt joked, thankful she had stuck by his side.
Together, Matt and BreAnne have raised two children, Ty and Luke. Their family life often requires BreAnne to manage everything on her own due to Matt’s demanding coaching career.
When Matt took the Packers head coach position in 2019, their sons stayed in Tennessee with BreAnne to finish school before they moved. “I’m lucky I’ve got such a supportive wife,” Matt said, recognizing her invaluable role in their family’s stability.
BreAnne has been by Matt’s side through many moments in his career. When he was named head coach of the Packers, she had to nudge him to take the call from Packers President Mark Murphy because Matt was so stunned.
She also played a key role in organizing the event, even assisting in directing traffic at his press conference. Matt expressed his gratitude publicly, calling BreAnne “the real rock star of the family.”
BreAnne’s contributions as a mother and wife have not gone unnoticed. Aaron Rodgers, former Packers quarterback, praised her for being the backbone of Matt’s success. During an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show in 2021, Rodgers highlighted her support for Matt, emphasizing that behind every successful coach is a wife who manages the family and ensures everything runs smoothly.
