Elizabeth “Liz” Gillies and her husband, Michael Corcoran, are enjoying a fulfilling chapter in their lives. As Gillies, 31, delves deeper into her solo music career, with new releases and live shows, she is supported by her partner, Corcoran, 51, a talented musician she’s collaborated with in the past, although not quite in the way she once envisioned.
Reflecting on their early relationship, Gillies shared, “When we first started dating, I was like, ‘Oh, we’re going to be like James Taylor and Carly Simon.'” She admitted, however, that their reality has been somewhat different. “And it’s like, no, that’s not what’s going to happen actually. We do write music together, and we have written a lot together, but we pick our moments.”
Corcoran, who contributed to the music for Victorious, the Nickelodeon series that starred Gillies, has also worked on tracks for her Dynasty character, Fallon Carrington. Despite their artistic collaborations, they’ve learned to balance their professional and personal lives in a healthy way.
Gillies explained, “We are both very creative,” noting that working together requires a harmonious environment. “Sometimes it can get stressful because we’re both very strong-willed, and we have very intense opinions.” However, when the opportunity for collaboration arises, she feels “very lucky” to have Corcoran by her side.
She went on to share that Corcoran’s musical talent was one of the things that initially drew her to him. “He had a savant-level talent, and that was it for me,” she said, emphasizing how much she admires his abilities.
After four years of marriage, Gillies believes their strong friendship is the key to their enduring bond. “We’re best friends,” she said. “I mean, it sounds very eye-roll-y, and if anyone said it to me about them, I’d be like, ‘Oh, shut up. You’re boring.’ But unfortunately, I think that’s the key.”
Gillies describes her life with Corcoran and their four dogs as “really beautiful” and “peaceful.” “We laugh at all the same things, we love the same shows, we’re madly in love with our dogs,” she explained. “I wouldn’t trade it for anything.”
She will also perform a limited series of shows at Café Carlyle in New York City from November 6 to November 9 and recently released a new single, What You’ve Done, with Ferry Townes.
