Reflecting on her son Roman’s first year, Jana Kramer is filled with gratitude, especially after the challenging early moments of her pregnancy. In an emotional Instagram post on November 12, the 40-year-old country singer shared the difficult journey she experienced while expecting her youngest child.
At eight weeks pregnant, she learned that there was a “50/50 chance I would miscarry.” She recalled, “On the eve of Roman’s first birthday, I’m feeling all the emotions but mostly just so grateful.”
Kramer recounted the scare she had when she began heavily bleeding, which triggered memories of previous miscarriages. “I started to cry as I knew just what was happening,” she wrote. However, she was shocked when doctors found a heartbeat later that same day.
She explained that the bleeding was caused by a “subchronic hemorrhage” and that because it was larger than the baby at that point, the risk of miscarriage was huge. Kramer expressed deep appreciation for her husband, Allan Russell, who maintained an optimistic outlook throughout the difficult time.
“I’m so thankful for Allan because he heard the positive side of it … but all I heard was I’m going to lose the baby,” she shared. For weeks, she continued to experience bleeding, which was an agonizing reminder of her previous losses.
Thankfully, the hemorrhage resolved and Roman continued to grow. However, the complications did not end there, as a fibroid also began to grow, threatening to interfere with the placenta. Despite this, Kramer prayed daily for her baby’s survival. “Every day I prayed so hard for this sweet baby to just keep on beating,” she wrote, sharing a photo of the message she and Allan wrote on the foundation of their home: “keep on beating baby.”
Concluding her post, Kramer offered words of encouragement for other hopeful mothers: “I have had multiple miscarriages and it isn’t lost on me I got pregnant the very first month we tried,” she wrote. “I hope no matter what age, or how long it’s taking, or if you have had losses, that you never lose hope.”
On November 13, Kramer celebrated Roman’s first birthday with a heartfelt video montage, expressing how much he has completed their family. “Happy 1st birthday to our Roman,” she wrote. “It has been the greatest year loving you.
You were the missing piece we didn’t even know was missing, and then you came and we now are complete..♥️ We love you so much.” Along with Roman, Kramer has two other children, Jolie, 8, and Jace, 5, with her ex-husband Mike Caussin.
