John Mulaney has shared insights into his experiences as a father of two during a conversation with PEOPLE at the GQ Man of the Year event on November 14. The comedian, 42, discussed how his son, Malcolm Hiệp, who will soon celebrate his second birthday on November 24, 2021, has adapted to his role as a big brother since the arrival of his sister, Méi June, on September 14.
Mulaney explained that at first, Malcolm seemed intrigued by his sister’s tiny movements, almost viewing her as a toy. Over time, however, he began to understand that she is his baby sister. Mulaney also spoke about his family’s holiday plans, mentioning that Malcolm’s birthday falls close to Thanksgiving. The family typically combines celebrations, hosting a joint “Malcolm birthday Thanksgiving” gathering.
As GQ’s Comedian of the Year, Mulaney took a moment to celebrate his daughter’s two-month milestone on Instagram Stories, sharing his wife Olivia Munn’s photos and videos. The post included heartwarming images of Méi being cuddled by her parents and kissed by Malcolm, ending with a playful video of Mulaney making faces with his daughter.
On September 22, Munn and Mulaney announced Méi’s birth via Instagram. The baby, born on September 14, came into their lives with the help of a gestational surrogate. Munn’s caption noted Méi’s arrival in the “Year of the Dragon.”
Earlier this year, Munn opened up to PEOPLE about her battle with breast cancer, which led to multiple surgeries, including a double mastectomy, and medically induced menopause.
