Bonnie Hunt Reflects on Her ‘Sweet’ Friendship with Robin Williams from Jumanji

Bonnie Hunt cherishes the memories of Robin Williams spending time with her family, sharing personal moments that went beyond work

Bonnie Hunt is fondly recalling her friendship with Robin Williams, a bond that has remained with her since their time together on the set of Jumanji. Speaking at the Red One premiere, Hunt, 63, shared her lasting memories of Williams, reflecting on their time in the 1995 film and the connection they forged beyond the camera.

“I think about my sweet Robin all the time, and I miss him dearly,” Hunt expressed. “And I’m so glad that we became friends and were in each other’s lives, always.” Williams passed away in August 2014, leaving a void in many lives, including Hunt’s.

Hunt described their on-set experience as a “really special time,” but emphasized that their bond off-set was even more important to her. She fondly remembered times spent with Williams and her family, saying, “Just Robin with my family, with my nieces and nephews and my mom, and knowing his mom, and knowing his brother.”

For Hunt, the personal connection they shared, rooted in trust and humor, was what truly mattered. She recalled, “It was really the personal bond and the trust in each other, and then the humor. Always the humor.”

In Jumanji, Williams portrayed Alan Parrish, a man trapped in the game for 26 years. Hunt played Sarah, his friend, who is deeply affected by the traumatic events. Kirsten Dunst and Bradley Pierce also starred as siblings who unknowingly release the characters from the game. The film featured Bebe Neuwirth, David Alan Grier, and Patricia Clarkson.

Kirsten Dunst, 42, also remembered Williams in an April interview with Variety, recounting a thoughtful gift he gave her after filming. The then-13-year-old actress received her first computer from Williams — an Apple in vibrant colors. “He was like the most generous, kind, funny person,” she said of her late co-star.

Bradley Pierce, 42, shared a memory from 2020 during an episode of CBCListen, reflecting on how Williams took care of the child actors on set. Pierce recalled filming a challenging monsoon scene where the young cast was required to spend hours in a rain tank. As the day wore on, the producers proposed overtime to finish filming, but Williams quickly intervened.

“Robin caught wind of these conversations happening and apparently he pulled the director and producers aside and said, ‘No, we’re not doing any extra time. You’re gonna let everyone out of the pool now and we’re going to come back next week,'” Pierce recalled. “For all the dollars that would have cost, nobody else could have stood up the way he did.”
