Yvette Nicole Brown is preparing for her wedding day! Ahead of her marriage to actor Anthony Davis, Brown, 53, recently celebrated a bridal shower at 1010 Wine & Events, a Black-owned wine bar in Inglewood, on Sunday, Nov. 17.
The event, which was organized by William P. Miller, was hosted by seven women, including Vanessa Bell Calloway, Lela Rochon Fuqua, Nikaya “ND” Brown Jones, Ranada Shepard, Sa’Rah Jones, Shernice Lazare, and Kym Whitley, who also served as the “Shower Mistress of Ceremony.”
The shower’s theme, “Our Pearl Has Found Her Diamond,” paid tribute to Brown’s sorority pearls and her sparkling diamond engagement ring. Brown, who graduated from the University of Akron in Ohio 30 years ago, is a proud member of the Delta Pi chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.
Calloway, who took the lead in organizing the event, instructed Brown to wear pearls and something white. However, Brown had no idea what to expect beyond that. “Everything else about it was a complete surprise,” she says. Her makeup for the special day was done by her friend Beth Carter, while her hair was styled by Tara Copeland.
The bridal shower guest list included many of Brown’s celebrity friends, including Lisa Ann Walter, Kim Fields, Sunny Hostin, Essence Atkins, Holly Robinson Peete, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Cynthia Kaye McWilliams, Cree Summer Francks, and Yvette Lee Bowser. Guests enjoyed a pink carpet photo experience provided by Tri Destined Studios, music by DJ Candice Manier, a toast with signature cocktails from SV Vodka, and cake by Southern Girl Desserts.
Activities included crafting pearl jewelry, playing games, and watching a video filled with heartfelt messages and photos. Guests also received curated gift bags from The Body Butters by Curtisha Thomas, DorNee, Sunshine de Lites, and Absolute JOI.
Brown showed her gratitude to the shower’s hostesses by gifting them body products from OSEA and treats from Flour House Cakes & Co. The venue was adorned with vibrant flower arrangements from Serafina Floral Design.
For Brown, who will marry Davis in December, having the support of her friends throughout her journey to the altar “means everything.” She shares, “I believe most of them have been married or are still married. Some have even been proposed to. This is my first everything, so it’s exciting to sit with them, hear their advice, and get their thoughts on it all.”
Despite their strong support system, Brown and Davis, who announced their engagement in December 2023, have chosen not to have bridesmaids or groomsmen at their wedding. “Tony and I decided that at our age, we can’t pick a bridal party,” Brown says, adding with a laugh, “It’d be 5 million people!”
