Lucy Liu and Drew Barrymore share a strong friendship. During an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show on Nov. 18, the Red One actress and her co-star Kiernan Shipka discussed their dating experiences and exchanged personal stories, including a memorable moment when Liu found Barrymore “hiding in my bushes” after a breakup.
Liu, 55, recalled the incident, saying, “She rang the gate and was hiding, and when I came out, I couldn’t see anyone.” Liu continued, describing how Barrymore, 49, appeared with leaves in her hair, saying, “I don’t want him to see me here. Remember?” Liu then urged her, “What are you doing? Get in the house,” as Barrymore was literally hiding in the bushes.
Shipka, 25, humorously added, “Can you please hide in mine next time too?” Barrymore shared with the audience that she was struggling with a painful breakup and feeling “depressed,” hoping to find comfort at Liu’s house.
“There’s nothing better in heartbreak than your girlfriends,” she explained, adding, “I don’t know what it is for guys, but I hope it’s your guy friends and you go, ‘Come over, I’m gonna take you for a drink.'” Liu also spoke about her 9-year-old son Rockwell’s reaction to her new movie Red One, revealing that he was “so proud” of her. “I was stunned, and it made my heart burst open,” Liu admitted.
As for whether Rockwell has seen the 2000 film Charlie’s Angels, in which Liu starred alongside Barrymore and Cameron Diaz, Liu answered, “No, it’s a little too much.” She continued, “I think there’s a lot of boob and booty going on, and it’s just not the right time for him.”
