Danny DeVito marked his 80th birthday on Sunday, Nov. 17, with heartfelt tributes from his It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia co-stars, Rob McElhenney and Kaitlin Olson. Both actors took to social media to celebrate the milestone with messages of admiration and fondness for the legendary actor.
McElhenney shared a photo of DeVito pointing at the camera and posted a touching message in a tweet. “This man was born 80 years ago today,” he wrote. “He could still drink you under the table, make you laugh harder than anyone you’ve ever met, and make you feel like you’re the only person in the room.”

He continued, praising DeVito’s timeless charm, adding that he could offer the best advice and make others feel loved. “He’s an American treasure,” McElhenney concluded, emphasizing that there’s truly only one Danny DeVito.
Olson also took to Instagram to honor DeVito, sharing a playful photo of the two in holiday attire while enjoying some food during a photoshoot. “Happy birthday to my favorite (rum) ham,” she wrote, describing him as the person who lights up every room and gives his heart to everyone and everything he loves. “Here’s to 80 more,” she added, expressing confidence that DeVito still has plenty more to offer.
Since 2005, DeVito has been a key part of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, working alongside McElhenney, Olson, Glenn Howerton, and Charlie Day for more than 16 seasons. In October, DeVito spoke to PEOPLE about the show’s upcoming crossover episode with Abbott Elementary on ABC.
While keeping details to a minimum, he promised the audience would love the episode as much as the cast enjoyed filming it. “We had a great time,” he said, calling his fellow cast members “wonderful people” and describing the pairing as “such an odd mix,” making the episode even more exciting. DeVito also teased that there would be “lots of surprises” in the crossover, joking that the Abbott Elementary cast was handling them well despite the wild antics they brought to the show.
