Chynna Phillips Baldwin and Billy Baldwin are opening up about how their unique living situation is affecting their marriage. In a recent episode of Chynna’s California Preachin’ YouTube series, released on November 17, she discussed how their decision to live apart has created an “unspoken energy” in their relationship.
During the video, titled We Went to the Dark Side, Chynna and Billy, who have been married for nearly three decades, shared their thoughts while driving together. Chynna initiated the conversation by addressing the tension between them, asking, “What would you call this unspoken energy we’ve been feeling?” Billy, with a lighthearted smile, replied, “I’d call it roommates. Coexisting.”
Chynna had earlier revealed that she and Billy decided to live in separate homes in different cities in an effort to strengthen their bond. She explained, “I suggested to Billy, ‘What do you think about not living under the same roof 24/7?’”
A unique living arrangement brings unexpected tension into Chynna and Billy Baldwin’s relationship
Billy shared that he thought it was a great idea, adding that their past experience of being apart for work made the arrangement seem like it would be natural. “I figured we could both go off to do our separate things—like you go on tour, and I go to Europe for a festival—and we’d naturally have some time apart,” he said. Initially, Billy believed they’d spend three weeks together and one week apart, but he was surprised when Chynna had a different vision.
“That’s not exactly what I meant,” Chynna clarified. “What I meant was, we don’t need a strict schedule, but the idea is to spend most of the month apart, while making sure we have time for date nights, therapy, and things we enjoy together.”
A moment of tension arose when Billy mentioned that he felt Chynna had turned down his physical affection multiple times. Chynna, unaware of this, expressed surprise at his feelings. The conversation ended in laughter as Chynna joked, “We’re doomed. We’re so doomed.”
In a previous episode of California Preachin’ on November 3, Chynna had gone into more detail about the couple’s living arrangement. “Billy and I have entered this new phase that’s really working for me,” she said. “I’m not sure about Billster, but I’m happy with it.”
She explained that the plan was flexible and unstructured. “I said to Billy, ‘Why don’t we try a test run? I’ll stay in Santa Barbara, you’ll be in Beverly Hills, and we’ll switch it up. We’ll still have date nights, therapy, family dinners, and trips to the beach or museum.’” The couple, married in 1995, are parents to three adult children: daughters Jameson, 24, and Brooke, 19, and son Vance, 22.
