Nicholas Hoult Opens Up About His Conversation with Hugh Grant at Their Recent Reunion

Nicholas Hoult reunites with Hugh Grant two decades after About a Boy

Nicholas Hoult recently opened up about reconnecting with his former About a Boy co-star, Hugh Grant, after two decades. The two actors, who last appeared together in the 2002 film, reunited at the 15th Governors Awards in Los Angeles on Nov. 17, 2024.

Grant shared a playful photo on X, featuring himself and Hoult laughing outside the Dolby Theatre, alongside a nostalgic image from their film. Hoult reposted it with the caption, “We’re cute,” adding a touch of humor to their reunion.

Speaking to PEOPLE about their reunion, Hoult explained that their conversation covered a variety of topics. “We spent time talking about golf since we both enjoy it,” he mentioned. “Cars were also a big topic. We just caught up on life, family, where we’re living, and how things have been.”

Laughter and nostalgia as Nicholas Hoult reconnects with Hugh Grant

Reflecting on reconnecting with his former co-stars from About a Boy, Hoult expressed gratitude for the relationships he built with Rachel Weisz and Toni Collette, whom he worked with on projects later in his career. He starred with Weisz in The Favourite (2018) and with Collette in the recent Clint Eastwood-directed Juror #2.

“It’s been special to reconnect with them, especially considering how kind and caring they were to me during such a formative time in my life,” Hoult said. “Now, as an adult, it’s wonderful to see them in a new light and develop a deeper, more mature relationship.”

Hoult also spoke about how meaningful it is to see them as peers after growing up in the industry, adding that those reunions were some of his most rewarding moments.

As part of his collaboration with Heineken for the Formula 1 Heineken Silver Las Vegas Grand Prix, Hoult reminisced about his childhood fascination with racing, sparked by watching races with his father. “Every Sunday, my dad would sit down with a sandwich to watch the races, and I’d join him,” he said, recalling those early memories.

Through various opportunities, Hoult has since become more involved in racing. “I’ve had the chance to attend some races, and I’ve even teamed up with Ferrari, learning to drive with them,” he said. “The energy at a racetrack is unlike anything else—there’s a certain electric atmosphere, and the drama of the sport adds to the thrill.”

As for his preferences in the upcoming race in Las Vegas, Hoult admitted that his loyalty lies with Ferrari. “I’m always rooting for Ferrari—they made my racing dream possible,” he said. “But I also support the British drivers, like Lewis Hamilton, and Lando Norris, who’s having a fantastic season.”
