Two years have passed since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle released their Netflix documentary Harry & Meghan, and now the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are set to bring a new project to the streaming platform. On Thursday, Nov. 21, Netflix made public the trailer for their upcoming series, which will explore the high-stakes world of one of Prince Harry’s favorite pastimes.
The docuseries, titled Polo, is a five-part production that will debut on Netflix on Dec. 10. According to the streaming service, it promises to offer an inside look at the sport, which is often associated with glamour and social status, revealing what it takes to compete at the highest level.
Prince Harry, much like his father, King Charles, and his brother, Prince William, has been passionate about polo for many years. The series delves into the intriguing world of polo, following some of its top athletes, including Nacho Figueras, a close friend of the Duke of Sussex and one of the most renowned polo players globally. The action came to play at the U.S. Open Polo Championship in Wellington, Florida.
In the trailer, Figueras emphasizes that polo is more than just a game. “Polo is a lifestyle,” he states, adding that for elite players, the sport is all-consuming. “We eat, we breathe, we sleep polo,” he explains.
Earlier in October, Figueras spoke with People about his involvement in the project, expressing, “To me, it’s an honor to do anything with him. He’s a dear friend. This is more his project than it is mine. It’s an honor to know that I was able to help.”
The series also explores the personal challenges faced by polo players, including the stress the dangerous sport places on athletes and their families. One storyline focuses on the father-son duo of 17-year-old Poroto Cambiaso and his father, polo legend Adolfo Cambiaso, as they compete against each other.
Although Harry and Meghan serve as executive producers on Polo, which is produced by Boardwalk Pictures, they do not appear in the trailer. However, Meghan will soon launch her own project on Netflix, which, according to the streamer, will “celebrate the joys of cooking, gardening, entertaining, and friendship.” Fans may even see some of her upcoming American Riviera Orchard products featured in the show.
