Despite her return to official duties over the past week, Buckingham Palace announced on Friday, November 22, that she would be unable to attend another key event.
Originally, King Charles and Queen Camilla were set to attend the annual Royal Variety Performance on Friday evening. However, the Queen was forced to withdraw from the event just hours before it began.
King Charles attends Royal Variety Performance solo after Queen Camilla rests
A statement from the palace explained that due to lingering post-viral symptoms following her chest infection, doctors advised the Queen to rest after a busy week of engagements. As a result, she would no longer be attending the performance. However, the King, who serves as the patron of the Royal Variety Charity, would continue with his planned appearance.
The charity, which supports entertainment industry professionals in need, recently launched a new initiative focused on mental health. King Charles’ attendance will highlight the charity’s ongoing work.
The Royal Variety Performance, held annually since 1912, is celebrated as the world’s longest-running entertainment show. Queen Camilla will miss out on performances, including musical numbers from Oliver and The Devil Wears Prada, as well as magic by Penn & Teller, along with other theater, comedy, and music acts.
Earlier this week, Queen Camilla participated in several events, such as a reception for the Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition, where she was joined by stars like Spice Girl Geri Horner. She also received an honorary doctorate in literature from her sister-in-law, Princess Anne, during a ceremony at the University of London.
