On Sunday, Nov. 24, Glen Powell’s lookalike contest took place, and his mother, Cyndy Powell, played a key role in selecting the winner. The event, held at Auditorium Shores in Austin, featured hundreds of fans, and the grand prize included a $5 reward, a cowboy hat, and a year’s worth of free queso from Torchy’s.
Cyndy gave her approval to the winner, while Glen, who joined via FaceTime, extended an exciting opportunity for the winner’s loved ones: a chance to appear in one of his upcoming films.
Maxwell Braunstein, a physician’s assistant from Austin, claimed the victory as contestant number four. Braunstein, clearly excited, shared that his face had never hurt so much since he was a child at Disney World. “I did tell people I was going to win,” he confessed, explaining that he had even mentioned it to friends who had encouraged him to participate.
When speaking to Glen, who is currently filming Edgar Wright’s remake of The Running Man, Braunstein expressed his gratitude. “I’m blessed that your mother thinks I’m anything like you,” he said, acknowledging the special moment.
Glen also made it clear in a statement that the contest’s winner would have the opportunity to have a family member, such as a parent, make a cameo in his next movie, a fun perk after years of his own parents’ appearances in his films.
Glen took to social media to announce the personal prize for the contest winner. “While there’s some cash and a hat at stake, the real prize is a cameo for a family member in my next movie,” he said in a video posted on X. “My parents appear in every movie I make, and today, the winner gets a family member cameo, too.”
He ended his message with a playful note: “Take a pic together for me, enjoy my favorite city, keep Austin weird, hook ’em Horns, and see ya around every time I look in the mirror.”
