Bishop TD Jakes shared that he recently underwent emergency surgery following a health crisis that occurred while he was delivering a sermon last weekend. The 67-year-old pastor from Texas addressed the congregation at Potter’s House Church in Dallas through a video call on Sunday, where his appearance was met with a standing ovation.
During his message, Jakes described his experience as miraculous, stating, “Many of you don’t realize that you’re looking at a miracle,” according to TMZ. He explained that he faced a life-threatening situation, was rushed to the ICU, underwent surgery, and survived. Jakes expressed gratitude for his recovery, adding that his doctor advised him to ease back into his routine.
The congregation cheered enthusiastically throughout his brief update. While Jakes did not share further specifics about his condition, his remarks provided reassurance to those concerned. The health scare occurred during a Nov. 24 sermon when he suddenly fell silent and appeared to involuntarily shake.
People rushed to his side, and the live broadcast was quickly cut. Following the incident, speculation arose online, with some suggesting he had suffered a stroke. Many others sent prayers and supportive messages. A statement from Jakes’ team later confirmed he was stable and receiving care from medical professionals. They expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support and continued prayers from the community.
His daughter, Sarah Jakes Roberts, also addressed the situation in an Instagram video, sharing that the day could have ended in tragedy but her father was doing well. She emphasized his strength and thanked supporters for their prayers and kind words.
Jakes, who founded the Potter’s House Church in 1996, leads a diverse congregation that has grown to 30,000 members.
