A “last-minute” wedding ceremony took place for Courtney Stodden and fiancé Jared Safier, with only 20 guests attending at Casa de Monte Vista in Palm Springs, California, on Tuesday.
In an interview with Us Weekly, the reality star shared, “We planned on getting married, and we didn’t have a date. We just kind of looked at each other, and we’re the same kind of crazy. We just looked at each other, and we’re just like, ‘This is the perfect time to do it.’”
The couple, aged 30 and 41 respectively, began organizing their wedding just three weeks earlier when they discovered that their families could gather in the area for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Stodden remarked, “It’s the holidays. It’s already stressful, and we just bought a house together, so we’re dealing with that. Our family was like, ‘Are you guys crazy?’ and we’re like, ‘Yeah!’ It just felt like the right time.”
For the ceremony, Stodden, who identifies as non-binary and uses they/them pronouns, chose a $60,000 vintage low-cut silk wedding dress and complemented it with a long, flowing veil embroidered along the edges. Their hairstyle featured curls styled half-up, half-down, and they carried a bouquet of red roses.
On the other hand, Safier opted for an all-black suit paired with a black tie and shoes, enhancing his look with a red rose boutonnière that matched Stodden’s bouquet.
After exchanging vows, the newlyweds celebrated with their guests at a reception that featured exclusively vegan dishes. Stodden expressed their excitement, stating, “I feel like I am on a journey of where I’m supposed to be. Everything that has happened up to this point has led me here.”
Safier echoed this sentiment, telling the magazine, “I get to marry my best friend and the love of my life, and I get to do it in front of [their] family and my family, so very excited.”
Stodden initially gained public attention for their marriage to Doug Hutchison in 2011 when they were just 16, and he was 51. Reflecting on their current situation, they shared, “I think that it’s only natural for me because of my story to feel nervous about this because I really do want my happy ending.
I want this to be it, and it’s nerve-racking because a lot of PTSD and a lot of different things have been swirling around, but I know that I’m marrying a really amazing man and I’m just hopeful, and so I’m feeling all the feels.”
In addition to their previous controversial marriage, Stodden also attracted media attention for their relationship with ex-fiancé Chris Sheng. The couple ended their two-year engagement in July 2023, a breakup that Stodden marked by discarding Sheng’s engagement ring.
In a video shared last June, they humorously stated, “I’m just doing a little last-minute spring cleaning before summer. I guess diamonds aren’t always a girl’s best friend after all. Toodle-oo! Onto the next chapter,” before picking up the ring from a jewelry container, tossing it into a toilet, and flushing it away.
