Speculation regarding the stability of Prince Harry’s marriage to Meghan Markle was addressed after they attended events apart. During his appearance at The New York Times’ 2024 DealBook Summit on Wednesday, Harry remarked that the relentless focus on his marriage is “definitely not a good thing.”
He noted, “Apparently we’ve bought or moved house 10, 12 times. We’ve apparently divorced maybe 10, 12 times as well. So it’s just like, what?” While accustomed to the media frenzy surrounding his life, the author of Spare expressed sympathy for online trolls who seem invested in his relationship with the former Suits star.

He stated, “It’s hard to keep up with, but that’s why you just sort of ignore it. The people I feel most sorry about are the trolls.” Harry described the disappointment that trolls must feel when their expectations are repeatedly dashed. “Their hopes are just built and built, and it’s like, ‘Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes,’ and then it doesn’t happen. So I feel sorry for them. Genuinely, I do.”
The father of two also extended an apology to NYT columnist Andrew Ross Sorkin during their conversation, acknowledging that he, too, might become a target of the media frenzy. He said, “I have no doubt that this interview will be spun or twisted somehow against me, and maybe you yourself will be trolled relentlessly.”
Harry emphasized that online rumors can become “dangerous” over time. Reflecting on his experiences, he said, “I’ve had a lived experience since I was a kid. I’ve seen stories written about myself that aren’t exactly based on reality. I’ve seen stories about members of my family, friends, strangers, all sorts of people.”
He added that growing up in such an environment leads to questioning the validity of the information and the potential dangers it poses over time. Harry’s remarks about the rumors followed recent sightings of him and Markle at separate events. On November 14, the Duchess of Sussex attended the launch of her friend Kadi Lee and Myka Harris’ Highbrow Hippie haircare line, where she was seen dancing alone.
Just days later, it was announced that Harry, serving as the Global Ambassador for Scotty’s Little Soldiers, would be hosting a charity event on December 10 without Markle. Earlier in October, Markle also attended the Children’s Hospital LA Gala solo, stunning in a red dress. The couple, who met in July 2016, share two children: son Archie, five, and daughter Lilibet, three.
