Taylor Swift’s documentary Miss Americana was not centered around her love life. Filmmaker Lana Wilson, who directed the 2020 Netflix project, shared with the Daily Mail that leaving Joe Alwyn, Swift’s then-boyfriend, largely out of the film was an intentional choice. Wilson, considering it “disrespectful and weird,” said the idea of including him “never occurred to [her].”
Wilson emphasized that the focus of the documentary was on Swift’s deeply transformative and powerful experiences at that time, which were unrelated to her personal relationships.

She explained, “It wasn’t something I wanted to film… she’s been through so much, this should be private.” The director also noted that Alwyn did not become part of the production until the very end, reinforcing her decision to exclude their relationship from the film.
Though their romance was largely absent, Swift briefly discussed Alwyn on camera, and their private relationship was mentioned. Some scenes captured her writing songs inspired by him. Since they began dating in 2016, the couple maintained a low profile, staying out of the spotlight.
After their breakup in 2023, Swift entered a brief relationship with Matty Healy of The 1975 before moving on to Kansas City Chiefs player Travis Kelce. Unlike her relationship with Alwyn, her romance with Kelce has been more public.
Kelce, 35, joined Swift onstage during her London Eras Tour show in July and often discusses her on his podcast, New Heights. Swift has also made playful nods to their relationship, altering her “Karma” lyrics to reference “the guy on the Chiefs” instead of “the guy on the screen.” She regularly attends Kelce’s games, sitting with his family, who recently spent Thanksgiving alongside her loved ones.
