Tony Buzbee is remaining steadfast in his approach. The attorney addressed Jay-Z’s denial of allegations that he, along with Sean “Diddy” Combs, sexually assaulted one of Buzbee’s clients at a 2000 MTV VMAs afterparty when she was 13. Jay-Z had previously dismissed the claims as a “blackmail attempt.”
In response, Buzbee stated on social media that his firm had sent a demand letter to Jay-Z’s lawyer on behalf of the alleged victim, emphasizing that the victim never sought monetary compensation.
Buzbee accused Jay-Z of attempting to intimidate him and his client, claiming the artist filed a lawsuit under a pseudonym to avoid direct association. According to Buzbee, the lawsuit, which he described as frivolous, only strengthened his client’s determination to pursue the case. He maintained that the legal proceedings would focus on the facts in court rather than the media.
Documents obtained in November revealed that Buzbee was sued by an individual identified as John Doe, allegedly Jay-Z, who accused him of extortion. The suit claimed Buzbee threatened to release fabricated allegations involving sexual assault, including incidents of minors being victimized at events hosted by Combs.
Court filings also allege that Jay-Z and Combs assaulted a teenager while a female celebrity was present. Jay-Z vehemently denied the accusations, branding Buzbee as opportunistic and asserting that the claims had only motivated him to fight back publicly. He expressed concern about the impact on his family, including his wife, Beyoncé, and their children.
These developments come in the middle of the ongoing legal battles involving Combs, who faces multiple charges, including racketeering and sex trafficking, for which he remains in custody. Buzbee continues to represent numerous victims in related civil cases. For assistance, contact the Sexual Assault Hotline at 1-800-330-0226.
