The engagement ring worn by Paris Jackson reflects her personal values and beliefs. Last week, she confirmed her engagement to music producer Justin Long by sharing a heartfelt series of proposal photos alongside a birthday tribute, showcasing her stunning new ring.
In line with her commitment to sustainability, the eye-catching diamond is a lab-grown stone. Despite its portrait cut and more affordable price, which make it an unconventional choice, the ring carries a noteworthy pedigree: Jackson enlisted Jean Dousset, the great-great-grandson of Cartier founder Louis Cartier, to create this beautiful piece.
Dousset, who has crafted other high-profile engagement rings—including the multi-million dollar sparkler worn by family friend Paris Hilton—incorporated meaningful details tailored specifically for Jackson into the design.
The designer noted that it took one month to craft Jackson’s ring, during which he integrated references to the number seven—a figure of importance to her, as revealed by Long—into the band’s shape and the placement of diamonds throughout the setting.
Dousset also explained that he carefully selected the 3-carat portrait-cut center stone for its rarity and “understated elegance,” as this smooth, glass-like cut gained prominence during the Renaissance.
Originally, this flat cut was used in lockets and other jewelry to conceal hidden portraits and artwork, but it gradually lost favor to the more popular brilliant-cut diamonds. Considering Jackson’s long-standing advocacy for veganism, it’s understandable that she would choose a lab-grown stone over a natural diamond.
She has actively supported numerous sustainable fashion initiatives, including promoting a vegan makeup brand by covering her 80 tattoos with Cover Fx products at the 2024 Grammys earlier this year.
Additionally, Jackson has been a prominent figure for environmentalist Stella McCartney, having modeled the designer’s mushroom-based alternative leather creations. While Long collaborated with Dousset to create a custom design, the company allows customers to choose the ideal setting paired with a selected diamond.
Their offerings feature similar styles, including 3-carat emerald-shaped stones priced around $6,000, with an extra $2,000 for a pavé setting; unique customizations, such as the rare portrait cut, can raise the price further.
Having been together for nearly two years, it remains unclear when Long officially proposed, but engagement rumors first emerged in September when Jackson attended Nina Ricci’s Paris Fashion Week runway show dressed in white and wearing the same ring on her left hand.
The couple’s wedding is anticipated to have a bohemian theme that aligns with their environmentally conscious values.
