Kate Middleton has emerged as a contender for Time Magazine’s prestigious “Person of the Year” honor this year. The 42-year-old Princess of Wales earned her place on the shortlist due to her significant international impact, particularly in sparking discussions about privacy and health issues faced by public figures, according to the magazine.
Joining Middleton on the list are figures such as Vice President Kamala Harris, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, podcaster Joe Rogan, Tesla CEO Elon Musk, former President Donald Trump, Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg, and Russian economist Yulia Navalnaya. The announcement was made on Monday during the “Today” show, with the final winner set to be revealed on Thursday.
Since its inception in 1927, Time Magazine’s “Person of the Year” title has recognized individuals or groups that have shaped the past year, whether through positive or controversial contributions. Middleton previously appeared on the Time100 list of Most Influential People in 2013 and was a runner-up for the “Person of the Year” title in 2011.
The royal’s health became a focal point earlier this year when it was disclosed she had undergone major abdominal surgery. Following her extended absence from public life, Middleton addressed speculation in April, revealing her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy treatment in a candid video.
She withheld specifics about her illness, citing a desire to shield her three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, from undue attention. In a heartfelt update three months ago, Middleton announced the completion of her chemotherapy journey, acknowledging the immense challenges her family faced.
She described her battle with cancer as frightening and unpredictable, emphasizing her commitment to staying cancer-free while embracing life with a renewed perspective. Though the road to full recovery remains ongoing, she expressed gratitude for her health and the support she has received.
Most recently, Middleton made a public appearance at Westminster Abbey for the “Together at Christmas” carol service, an annual event she has hosted for the past four years, accompanied by her family.
