A rare red carpet event saw Aaron Taylor-Johnson attending alongside his wife, Sam Taylor-Johnson, and two of her adult children. The 34-year-old actor, known for his role in Kick-Ass, joined the 57-year-old director of Fifty Shades of Grey at the premiere of his latest film, Kraven The Hunter, held at AMC Lincoln Square Theater in New York City.
Sam’s two daughters, Angelica Mara Jopling, 27, and Jessie Phoenix Jopling, 18, from her previous marriage to Jay Jopling, were also present. The family posed together, wrapping their arms around one another and smiling happily for the cameras, clearly in good spirits.
Dressed to impress, Sam dazzled in a long-sleeve maroon sequined midi dress, paired with black tights, strappy black heels, and delicate silver hoop earrings. In a complementary outfit, Aaron wore a maroon velvet blazer over a long-sleeve button-down shirt, teamed with black trousers and shoes.
The couple took time for some photos alone, gazing affectionately at one another while posing for the photographers. Their relationship began in 2008 during the filming of Nowhere Boy, and they share two daughters, Wylda, 13, and Romy, 12, who were notably absent from the outing.
Aaron later explained to E! News that the reason for his daughters’ absence was their age; they are not “old enough to watch” the R-rated film. “When they come of age, they’ll be able to see it,” he stated.
The couple welcomed their two daughters before marrying in 2012 when Aaron was just 22 years old. Over the years, he has frequently defended their 23-year age difference, most recently expressing a sense of “protectiveness” over their relationship in an interview with Rolling Stone UK.
He questioned societal norms regarding the pace of life, stating, “You’re doing something too quickly for someone else? I don’t understand that. What speed are you supposed to enjoy life at? It’s bizarre to me.”
He also noted the challenges of balancing his career with family life, saying, “I’m doing normal life; dentist appointments. Career doesn’t necessarily take a back seat, but it takes a different thought behind the choices that you make.”
Sam has consistently supported Aaron, telling The Guardian in April that their age difference has “never” posed a problem for them. She remarked that criticism often stems from others’ personal dissatisfaction, adding that her daughters do not let the negativity affect them. “They see two loving, happy parents, so it doesn’t really register. They just think people are a bit mean, or mad,” she explained.
