Jake Shane expressed that witnessing his best friend Sofia Richie embrace motherhood has been a “beautiful” experience since she and her husband, Elliot Grainge, welcomed their daughter, Eloise, in May.
As the first of his friends to have a baby, Shane shared his feelings with Page Six at the Celsius Padel Classic during Art Basel, saying, “I didn’t know what to expect, but she is just so in love with her daughter and she’s such an excellent mother.” He continued, “Eloise is just perfect, so I’m honored that I get to see Eloise grow and Sofia become a mother.”

Shane also mentioned his desire to play an active role in Eloise’s life, describing himself as an “uncle figure.” He playfully referred to this role by calling himself her “guncle,” a slang term for a gay uncle.
He expressed his eagerness to impart valuable life lessons to little Eloise, sharing, “Like, you know, try not to care what other people have to say about you, and be your authentic self and do what you love.”
When asked if Richie has managed to maintain their friendship despite the challenges of new motherhood, Shane enthusiastically replied, “Yes.” He praised his close friend, calling her “one of a kind.”
Sofia Richie welcomed her first child on May 20, celebrating the occasion with an Instagram post that read, “Eloise Samantha Grainge 5•20•24 best day of my life,” alongside a touching black-and-white image of her daughter’s feet.
The fashion designer, daughter of Lionel Richie, initially chose to keep her pregnancy private, prioritizing “protect[ing their] mental health and [their] space,” as she revealed to Vogue in January while showing off her growing baby bump.
She shared, “Pregnancy is really scary. I didn’t realize there are so many milestones you have to hit and so many tests you have to take. For me, it was really important to protect our mental health and our space as a couple.”
Richie and Grainge celebrated their marriage with an extravagant wedding in France in April 2023, attended by A-list guests such as Paris Hilton and Cameron Diaz. Grainge proposed to Richie in April 2023 with a stunning emerald-cut diamond ring, nearly two years after they publicly acknowledged their relationship.
