Renee Portnoy retains unrestricted access to Dave Portnoy’s $150 million fortune, despite their separation seven years ago. Recalling their journey together, the Barstool Sports founder noted during an appearance on “The Sage Steel Show” last month, “She was there when Barstool was in its infancy and endured the grind alongside us.”
Dave, who was married to Renee for eight years, explained, “Even now, she has full access to my finances and could walk away with everything if she chose to.” Emphasizing his perspective, he added, “Renee was part of the entire journey, so I feel she deserves to share in the rewards.”

He expressed confidence in Renee’s responsible handling of his wealth, describing her as “much more frugal” than he is. “I trust her completely,” Dave remarked. Their marriage, which ended amicably in 2017, has not diminished their close relationship, with Dave calling Renee his “best friend” and someone irreplaceable for having shared all his life’s challenges.
Although they married in 2009, the couple has not finalized their divorce due to unresolved financial matters. Dave disclosed that their divorce petition in Massachusetts was denied because they maintained a shared bank account and Renee declined to claim half of his fortune.
Documents accessed by the Daily Mail revealed the couple’s request to retain joint access to their shared account, which Dave solely funded, to cover all of Renee’s expenses. Additionally, Dave proposed covering Renee’s medical insurance costs, but a judge dismissed the request as “unacceptable.”
Following their separation, Dave entered a relationship with model Silvana Mojica from 2020 to 2023. However, their romance ended when they realized their differing life goals. “I felt I couldn’t provide Silvana with what she truly deserves,” Dave shared on his “BFFs” podcast on November 30, describing her as his “best friend” and expressing deep concern for her future.
