Travis Kelce expressed concerns about his chemistry with Patrick Mahomes following the Kansas City Chiefs’ narrow victory over the Las Vegas Raiders last week. On the latest episode of the “New Heights” podcast with his brother Jason Kelce, the tight end discussed their recent struggles on the field.
“I’m just not on the same page as Pat,” Kelce admitted. “It can get frustrating. It can get f–king frustrating. That’s for damn sure.” He added, “Where I take a lot of pride is once we get in that red zone, man. Once we get in that red zone, man, I get a little hungrier, and right now, for whatever reason this year, I just can’t find my way in the end zone.”
In Friday’s game at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, Travis caught seven passes for 68 yards but did not score a touchdown as the game concluded with a 19-17 victory. At 35 years old, the football player has recorded only two touchdowns in the Chiefs’ first 12 games of the 2024-25 season, which is a decrease of two compared to the same time last year, according to ESPN.
Reflecting on the recent game, Travis noted on the podcast, “They had a good understanding of what we were trying to do and how to stop us and how to slow us down.” He continued, “They eliminated a lot of the big-time plays that we had. On top of that, they kept us out of the end zone. That was the biggest thing for me.”
Jason chimed in, acknowledging, “I know you hold yourself to a really high standard. I think you’re being a little hard on yourself.” So far this NFL season, the Chiefs have won 11 out of 12 games, with their only loss occurring against the Buffalo Bills on November 17.
In September, Travis admitted that both he and the Chiefs struggled with a slow start after a tight win against the Atlanta Falcons, which ended 22-17. “We’re finding ways to win games, but we’re not playing our best football,” he stated on the “New Heights” podcast.
He reflected, “Everybody can clean it up. I think everyone saw my drop in the fourth quarter with that crucial third down.” Travis explained that he has struggled to reach the end zone due to opposing defenses effectively stopping him.
The three-time Super Bowl champion remarked, “I just wanna have a successful offense, and I think Pat’s doing a great job of finding the open guy and making the right decisions right now.” During that time, sports commentators criticized Travis for spending too much time with his girlfriend, Taylor Swift, rather than focusing on practice over the summer.
