During her appearance on Tuesday’s episode of “The Late Show,” Selena Gomez dismissed Stephen Colbert’s humorous warning to her boyfriend, Benny Blanco, regarding his “intentions” with her. The 32-year-old actress was taken aback when Colbert bluntly asked, “If you don’t mind me asking, where is this relationship going?” in the midst of their conversation. She replied, “Uh, whoa,” expressing surprise as she anticipated a different question about their Thanksgiving plans.
Her response included, “I’m not sure, but I’m having a great time.” Colbert, 60, then turned his attention to the camera to address Blanco, 36, directly. “Benny, you must think you’re pretty special if you think you can do better than this, OK?” he said, adding, “As America’s dad, I want to know what your intentions are with America’s daughter right over here.”
Gomez reacted to the playful exchange by laughing and mouthing, “Oh my,” before expressing her gratitude to Colbert. He responded with a cheeky, “You’re welcome. No charge for that. But, it’s a good relationship?”
Gomez nodded affirmatively, stating, “Oh, yeah. I love him.” The comedian then shifted the conversation back to Gomez and Blanco’s Thanksgiving celebration, discussing Blanco’s culinary skills and how he prepared a feast for their 50 guests.
Colbert seemed impressed and turned the question back to Gomez, asking, “What are your intentions with him? You must think you’re pretty special!” Laughing, Gomez explained that her role was to be the “hostess” and to “encourage him” while he cooked.
Although Blanco has not publicly commented on the playful warning, fans have shared varying reactions to the interview. One viewer commented, “Love you but you’re embarrassing her, please stop,” while another joked, “Totally not awkward.” A third fan expressed enthusiasm, saying, “America’s dad and America’s daughter!! Love that! Yeah, Benny, we want to know.”
The “Only Murders in the Building” actress and record producer have been in a relationship since July 2023, each expressing admiration for the other. Recently, Gomez mentioned in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter that she envisions a “future” with Blanco.
