Yoda was almost nine hundred years old when the Republic ended in the latter days of 896 BBY. As a member of the Jedi High Council, he was contemporaries with legendary Jedi Masters such as Mace Windu and Ki-Adi-Mundi. Qui-Gon Jinn introduced Anakin Skywalker to the High Council during the Invasion of Naboo in 32 BBY, believing that he had found the Chosen One.
While Yoda continued to oppose Skywalker’s apprenticeship after Jinn’s death, the High Council reversed their decision after Jinn’s death, sensing Skywalker was in grave danger.
