Rio Bravo is an American Western film. It was released in 1959. The movie was directed and produced by Howard Hawks. The film was shot at Old Tucson Studios outside Tucson in Arizona. In 2014, The Library of Congress declared the film as historically and culturally significant. It was also preserved in The National Film Registry.
The cast of the film included John Wayne, Dean Martin, Ricky Nelson, Angie Dickinson, Walter Brennan, Ward Bond, John Russell, Pedro Gonzalez Gonzalez, Estelita Rodriguez, Claud Akins, Malcolm Atterbury, and Harry Carey Jr. Even though Atterbury and Carey received the credits for the film. Their scenes were deleted from the final film.

The outdoor shooting for the film was done at Old Tucson Studios outside Tucson. The filming took place in 1958, summer. However, the movie was released in 1959. The movie is known to be Hawk’s best performance. Moreover, the film is famously known for its long opening scene with no dialogue. The film, moreover, received amazing audience reviews, and it made around $5.5 Million. The movie was never even reviewed in the UK for sight and sound. Furthermore, Leslie Halliwell gave the movie just two stars, claiming that it was unnecessarily long and slow-moving. However, the British critic Robin Wood rated it as one of the top movies of all time. Furthermore, Puline Kayle called the movie silly. However, they appreciated a few action scenes in the movie. Moreover, the American Film Institute, in 2008, nominated the movie for its Top 10 Western Films list.
Plot summary-
The movie starts when gunslinger Joe Burdette kills a man in a saloon. Later on, Sheriff John T. Chance arrests him while he is drunk. Before long, Burdette’s brother, Nathan, tells him that he is ready to get his brother out of jail if required and necessary. Chance decides to make a stand until reinforcements arrive, enlisting an old cripple man named Stumpy and baby-faced cowboy Colorado Ryan to help. Moreover, even though Chance told him not to, Wheeler goes to Rio Bravo and asks for help. However, things turn ugly and go downhill for him as soon as he visits. He ends up getting killed by one of Brudette’s men.

About the filming location-
The Old Tucson is an American movie studio. It was built for shooting films and TV series. Moreover, it is located in the west of Tucson. Since the time it was built, it has been used to shoot a lot of movies and series like “Rio Bravo,” “Arizona” and “Little House on the Praiarie”. It was built by Columbia Pictures in the year 1939. Moreover, the workers built more than 50 buildings within the span of 40 days. The studio was also an ideal location to shoot movie scenes like “The High Chapparal”. The show “The Young Riders” was also shot in the same studio. However, on September 8th, 2020, the Tucson theme park was shut down. The manager said that the decision was taken keeping in mind the pandemic situation.
