Jennifer Lopez Documentary

Her documentary Halftime has become popular ever since being released on Netflix. A lot of talks are going around the things that have been discussed in the documentary. Let’s take a closer look at them.

1. Asking Jennifer Lopez To Not Be ‘Political’ In Her NFL Performance

Jennifer mentions in her documentary that during her halftime performance in the NFL, she wanted to say the immigration issue. The NFL requested her not to be political and drop the idea. But she stuck to it because she believed in it. She said, “This girl from the Bronx, this girl that’s a Latina, landed on this stage somehow and is here to represent our culture, our music, and women everywhere.” She added, “I think a great moment would be having these fantastic little girl dancers I just met and hundreds of other girls in light cages. A choir of little girls singing. We want a feeling of Latinos in a cage, and you can’t keep us there. We won’t have that. The concept is, this next generation will not be suppressed in the way we were.”

2. Jennifer Lopez Almost Quit Hollywood

Yes, you heard that right! After her career had taken off, there came a time when she doubted her self-esteem. She revealed, “no matter what I achieved, their [the media’s] appetite to cover my personal life overshadowed everything.”. She added, “I believed a lot of what they said, which is that I wasn’t any good,” “I wasn’t a good singer, I wasn’t a good actress, I wasn’t a good dancer, I wasn’t good at anything. I just didn’t even belong, why wouldn’t I just go away?”.

3. Hustler’s Not In Oscars Affected Her

Probably Jennifer Lopez’s best performance was in the movie Hustlers. There were a lot of speculations around the performance getting nominated for Oscars. Unfortunately, it did not happen, and it did upset her. She said, “I thought I had a chance. I feel like I let everyone down,”. “The truth is, I started to think I was gonna get nominated,”  “I got my hopes up because so many people were telling me I would be. And then it didn’t happen. And I had to ask myself, ‘What does that mean?’ I do this not for an award. Or to do my hits and seem like I’m the best performer in the world. No, I do this… tell stories to effect change, connect with people, and make them feel things because I want to feel something.”

4. Ben Affleck Shows Up

Not much stuff related to personal relationships is shown in the documentary, Halftime, but our Man Ben Afleck sure makes a 30 seconds appearance in the documentary.

5. Her Divorce With Anthony Was Bad, But American Idol Did Help

Jennifer Lopez and Anthony got married and had twins in 2004. After several years in 2011, Anthony filed for divorce, which made J.Lo extremely sad and vulnerable. She “said As an artist, I kind of lost a little bit of who I was in trying to build a perfect family life. And when my kids were three, I got divorced. I was a single mom with two little kids,”. She added, “I was doing American Idol — that was my first big job after I had babies, and it was good for them. People could see me for who I was, and that changed everything. I learned a lot about myself. I had a purpose, and I just felt I had to work on my acting more, my singing more, my dancing more… everything. I need to be better in every way.”

6. Jennifer Says The Idea Of Performing With Shakira Was The Worst

Don’t just assume she was taking a dig at Shakira. She said this because the organizers did both of them enough time to perform individually. There was no time at all. Jennifer recalls, “We have six minutes. We have 30 seconds of a song, and if we take a minute, that’s it. We’ve got five left. But there’s got to be certain songs that we sing, though. We have to have our singing moments.

Butt Became The Talk

There was a time when her Butt became the source of everyone’s attention. A famous interviewer asked her a stupid question as to how she felt about her Butt. She explains, “I grew up around women with curves, so it was nothing ever I was ashamed of.” She said, “It was hard when you think people think you’re a joke like you’re a punchline.” “But I wound up affecting things in a way I never intended to affect them.”

Such things are revealed in the documentary. Sometimes it makes you want to cringe and sometimes feel bad for her. But like an excellent lady, she has taken everything to the chin.

Halftime is now streaming on Netflix.
