The entertainment industry loves adapting Jane Austen’s novels into movies or TV shows. Jane Austen’s novels were way ahead of their time. Austen’s female protagonists’ ideas and perspectives in the novels are very strong and courageous. Austen’s plot in her novels generally revolves around male dominance and class division. One of the novels by Jane Austen, “Persuasion,” is a very famous book of hers. It shows the worry of females always getting pressured and easily persuaded by their family and partners. Austen’s novel, “Persuasion” is being adapted by Netflix for their upcoming streaming. In this article, we will introduce you to the cast of Persuasion starring Dakota Johnson.

1. Dakota Johnson as Anne Elliott

The “50 shades of Grey” famed gorgeous Dakota Johnson is all to play the role of Anne Elliott in the film adaptation of the novel “Persuasion.” Unlike her family, which consists of spendthrifts and careless people, Anne is a calm and composite girl. Her father and sister carelessly spend money which takes them into the hole of financial debt. Anne breaks off her engagement with Fredrick Wentworth even though she loved her for the sake of family responsibility.

2. Cosmo Jarvis as Fredrick Wentworth

Anne and Fredrick get engaged at a very young age. When they both get ready for marriage, Anne’s family realizes that Fredrick doesn’t have enough wealth and persuades Anne to break off his engagement. However, Fredrick felt very sad when the engagement broke off. To prove his worth, he joins the navy and makes a name for himself there. Cosmo Jarvis is well known for playing popular roles in famous web series and movies such as “Peaky Blinders,” “Lady Macbeth,” and “Raised by Wolves.”

3. Henry Golding as Mr. William Elliott

Henry Golding plays the character of Mr. William Elliott, who is the cousin of Anne Elliott. At first, he seems respected and a gentleman. But, later, his true nature will come off as a greedy and selfish man. William used her first wife for material gains. He can only see the money. He is the only heir of the Elliott family. Henry Golding is in a lead role in the famous movie “Crazy Rich Asians.” Other popular works of his include “Snake Eyes” and “Gentleman.”

4. Niki Amuka Bird as Lady Russell

As Anne’s birth mother is not there with her since her childhood. Lady Russell is like a mother to Anne. She obeys her every order and fulfills her every choice. She wants nothing but good for Anne. Lady Russell rejects Fredrick for marrying Anne because he is less wealthy and of a lower class.

Others cast in the movie include Mia McKenna as Mary Elliott. She is known for her role in “The EastEnders.” Richard E. Grant as Sir Walter Elliott, the father of Anne Elliott. Richard is known for his role in the movie “The Hitman’s Bodyguard.”
