Top 5 Movies By Simon Pegg To Add To Your Watchlist!

Renowned comedian and actor Simon Pegg never misses when it comes to landing a blow with his movies and choosing star-studded projects to act in. His portfolio is rich with leading roles in critically acclaimed and fan-favorite movies such as the Star Trek and Star Wars series, the Mission Impossible franchises, and multiple voice acting credits to his name. Here we’ll talk about some of the top movies by Simon Pegg that you need to watch ASAP!

Simon Pegg started his acting career with roles in TV shows like Big Train, Asylum, and Band of Brothers. His breakthrough role is, of course, through his sitcom – for which he was also a writer – Spaced (1999). Since then, he has appeared in hundreds of roles, many of them highly praise-worthy and renowned. It is no surprise then that it’s difficult to select a measly five movies as his top 5 but based on audience rankings, IMDB ratings, and box office records.

Here Are The Top 5 Movies By Simon Pegg!

5. Ready Player One (2018)

A phenomenal and expensive adaptation of the Ernest Cline science fiction novel, Ready Player One, is set in a dystopic future. It is 2045, and humanity is not what it once was with people escaping to the virtual reality simulation of OASIS (Ontologically Anthropocentric Sensory Immersive Simulation). The hunt is on for game creator James Halliday’s Easter Egg, and people compete in huge numbers. The prize? Halliday’s entire wealth and the ownership of OASIS is surely a dream come true for video game enthusiasts.

The film is filled with references and callbacks to movies of the 80s and is a fun-packed ride where Pegg plays the role of co-creator of the game and OASIS, Ogden Morrow.

4. Mission Impossible: Fallout (2018)

In this installment of the Mission Impossible series, Simon Pegg packs an admirable punch, metaphorically and literally. Benji Dunn – often found in the laboratories in the previous editions – has a more hands-on approach this time when it comes to fighting villains. Mission ImpossibleFallout is more action-packed than any other. Fallout is a brilliant rollercoaster adventure with every frame filled with action sequences, thrilling stunts, amazing cinematography, and a dynamic ensemble.

Pegg’s character, Benji, comes out of his lab for once to fight Henry Cavill’s villain, John Lark, along with the Mission Impossible team, who make it worth your while to watch this action-thriller even if you haven’t seen the previous movies.

3. Hot Fuzz (2007)

Part of Pegg and British actor Nick Frost and director Edgar Wright’s collaborative franchise, the Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy, Hot Fuzz stars Simon Pegg in a leading role as officer Nicholas Angel. Angel is tired of his monotonous life, the drab village he is assigned to work in, and frustrated by the incompetency of his fellow officer and partner, Danny Butterman. Things worsen when gruesome murders are committed in their otherwise quaint town of Sandford, Gloucestershire, and Angel is forced to team up with Butterman to solve the crime.

Watch this movie if you’re a fan of buddy cop comedies and action-packed adventures in the backdrop of a murder mystery – but let’s be real, who isn’t?

2. Star Trek Beyond (2016)

Star Trek Beyond is part of the trilogy of new Star Trek movies started with Star Trek (2009) and Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) by director Justin Lin and written by Pegg himself. Pegg reprises his role as Montgomery Scott or Scotty, the resident nerd and engineer behind the operations of the Star Trek crew, which makes up for his lack of physical capabilities with technical knowledge. Pegg’s version of Scotty is as hilarious as ever, if not more.

His pairing with new addition Jaylah, played by Sophia Boutella, was applauded by critics for their dynamic – often at odds but joining hands and fighting villains when the moment calls for it. Pegg’s writing added another element to Scott’s character – perhaps that’s what happens when you pair a screenwriting genius and acting legend all in one man.

1. Shaun of The Dead (2004)

Preceding the brilliant comedy, Hot Fuzz, is its predecessor and the first movie in the Cornetto trilogy, Shaun of the DeadShaun of the Dead is a similarly hilarious movie starring Pegg and Frost as best friends who find themselves facing the unknown and have to save the day to emerge victorious. Shaun, who works a dead-end job, lives with his loafer roommate – Ed, played by Nick Frost – and, gets broken up by his girlfriend for having no direction in life, encounters a zombie in his backyard.

Just the beginning of madness, including a whole town infested with zombies and two idiots as their heroes. Albeit horrific for the population of Crouch End, London, this turns out to be life-changing for Shaun, who amends his ways and repairs his relationship with his family and friends.
